The Polish Bar Winter 2014 Collection, Swatches and Review

Hi everyone! I'm back with a beautiful winter collection for you. When I think of holos, one of the brands that comes to mind is The Polish Bar. Janice always does such beautiful holos, ones that have the perfect balance of colour and rainbow effect. So I was very excited to see the gorgeous colours in her winter collection, which are paired with very celestial names. And I couldn't resist taking lots of pictures of these.

The Polish Bar Swatches and Review: City of Lights and Spring Reverie

Hi everyone! The Polish Bar is one of those brands that is known for their holo polishes. And so far my experience with them has been fantastic. City of Lights and Spring Reverie are a nice change from all the bright colours we've been seeing lately, and they'll appeal to those who want more subdued colours with a nice holo effect.

The Polish Bar Pastel Holo Collection for Spring 2014

Hi everyone! If bright colours are not your taste, then summer collections can be hard to sit through. If you enjoy softer pastel shades, The Polish Bar's Pastel Holo collection might be right up your alley.

Some pastels can be difficult for people to wear, especially if they have the chalky Easter egg look. These pastels are subtle and muted, and I think more flattering because of it. The holo effect doesn't hurt either, and gives these colours and nice understated beauty.

New From Renaissance Cosmetics: The Wunderkammer Collection

Hi everyone! After three months I'm so pleased to be finally releasing another collection. I really wish it hadn't been so long, but sometimes things don't fall into place like originally planned. When I set out to make a spring collection, I had a few ideas, but none of them really excited me. So I decided to go back to the drawing board and try a new idea, and I think the collection is stronger because of it.

Nire's Desire, Techno Collection Phase Two: Drowning, Pleasure Island and Transatlantic

Hi everyone! The other day I showed you a preview of three polishes from Nire's Desire with some peacock nail art. And as promised I have swatches and a review of those three polishes. These are from the Techno Collection, Phase Two - six holographic polishes that are all blue shades and when put together form a perfect ombre effect. There was also a Phase One to this collection that consisted of some gorgeous rose to violet coloured holos - Sassy Shelly has some beautiful swatches of that collection.

Girly Bits Perry-twinkle: Swatches, Review and Comparisons

Hi everyone! You may remember a few weeks ago, I showed you Girly Bits Flash Your Tips, which was included in the A Box, Indied subscription box for March. Well Girly Bits is included in the April box with this beautiful periwinkle holo, perfect for spring.

When I first saw this, I wondered if it was close to Flash Your Tips. So I decided to do a quick comparison and include a few other purple and purple/blue holos from Girly Bits.

Different Dimension Fall 2013 Collection, Swatches and Review!

Hi everyone! First off, an apology to you and Different Dimension, I meant to post this a few days ago, but behind the scenes things have been stressful here. I'm hoping it will ease up by next week. The Fall 2013 collection came out at the same time as the Halloween collection, and it consists of four great holos, two glitter toppers, and two crellies with glitter. Some of these are currently available, but if you are not able to get your hands on them, be patient. Different Dimension is good about keeping their Etsy store stocked, and these are also available at several distributors.

Different Dimension Chocolate, Cranfairy, Dueling Unicorns, and Lucid Dreams

Different Dimension Lucky, Mystified, Nessie's Revenge, and Scarlet & Grey Remix

There's a lot of photos to go through, mainly because these are so gorgeous that it was hard to limit myself. So I'll offer my thoughts at the very end. One thing to note is the bottle size - I received minis in my press kit, but judging from the Different Dimension Etsy store, I think these are only available as full size polishes.

Chocolate is a brown linear holo. The holo effect is not as strong as the others, but still very noticeable. The formula was great and I had no issues with this - it went on very smooth and evenly. 3 coats.

Cranfairy is a raspberry-coloured jelly with pink and magenta small square and hex glitter. While this looks gorgeous in the bottle, I found that it was difficult to apply. The consistency is a bit thick and lumpy, and as you can see from my photos it's hard to get a nice, smooth, even application. If you get this one, I recommend layering one coat over a matching polish, or adding thinner, which should make the application easier. This was 3 coats.

Dueling Unicorns is a vivid warm-toned purple linear holo. It has a strong holo effect and it's a gorgeous polish - I can see this being flattering on a lot of skin tones. Application wise, it was a bit streaky and patchy with first and second coat, but evened out with the third. 3 coats.

Lucid Dreams is an off-white crelly with small gold iridescent and holographic glitter in hexes and squares. I really love off-white polishes, and I love the gold glitter in this. Consistency was a bit lumpy, but slightly better than Cranfairy. I recommend layering one coat over a matching base polish and/or adding a few drops of thinner. Otherwise it has good coverage for an off-white polish. 3 coats.

Lucky is a magenta linear holo. It has a strong holo effect and the colour is so gorgeous and sexy. The formula was good, although it wanted to pull away from tips - that seemed to fix itself on the third coat. 3 coats.

Mystified is a clear-based glitter topper with pink matte circles and hexes, lavender hexes, and copper hexes. The application was great and I had no trouble getting enough glitter out. I love purple and brown colour combinations and this one is pretty. According to Missi, this would look good over neutrals or purples. This was 1 coat over Girly Bits Well Isn't That Special.

Nessie's Revenge is a grass-green linear holo. Like the others, this has a strong holo effect and is a gorgeous, flattering colour. The formula was excellent - perfect consistency, completely even and self-leveling, and no patchiness. This was 3 coats.

Scarlet & Grey Remix is a clear-based glitter topper with matte grey, matte white and metallic red glitter in small hexes, squares, and circles. Missi describes this as being for her (football?) team the Buckeyes, but I'm not a sports fan and can still appreciate the colours. The formula was excellent and I had no trouble getting enough glitter on the nail. This was 1 coat over Girly Bits D!ck In A Box.

Different Dimension Scarlet & Grey Remix

Overall, I feel like this collection has a good variety, and I like that the names are often cute or witty. The holos are definitely the stand out of the collection, but I also think they are the least unique of the polishes. We've been seeing a lot of indies come out with holos lately - I'm guessing due to the demand for these polishes - and I feel like we've seen these colours before. That doesn't mean that they are not worth your money. The formula on these holos is excellent, and the holo effect on each one is strong. Also they are a good value - with full bottles running at $11, they are cheaper than many other holos on the market.

Of the holos my favourite is Dueling Unicorns, closely followed by Lucky. My favourite glitter topper is Mystified, and my favourite crelly is Lucid Dreams.

I'm curious, have you gotten any of the new polishes from Different Dimension? Which ones are your favourite?

Different Dimension is available on Etsy, and through Llarowe, Mei Mei's Signatures, Edgy Polish, and Ledoux Nuage. Follow Different Dimensions on Facebook and Instagram (@missibarry) to keep up with updates.

Girly Bits Fall Season Premiere: Part Three, Saturday Night Live

Hi everyone! As usual I'm behind on my 31 Day Challenge post, but I have a lot of swatches I need to post, so it all works out. Tonight I have the third and final instalment of the Girly Bits Fall Season Premiere collection, this time inspired by Saturday Night Live. Don't forget to check out the rest of this collection with the Bones and the Family Guy-inspired polishes. There was also the OVbunEN/Elephant Shoe duo released at the same time. I know that these polishes are starting to show up at the various stockists, and they are worth checking out!

Girly Bits Fall Season Premiere Collection - inspired by Saturday Night Live

I'll admit out of the three shows that this collection draws from, Saturday Night Live is the only one I'm not familiar with. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I've never seen an episode. However, that didn't stop me from appreciating the polishes in this collection - they are absolutely amazing. If you love holos, you will certainly love these!

D!ck in a Box is a mid-tone steel grey linear holo. The polish has green undertones - more noticeable in direct light - and a strong holo effect that is just stunning. The formula was excellent and it went on very evenly. I used 3 coats although 2 would also work.

More Cowbell is a blue-grey linear holo, also with a strong holo effect. I love grey-blues, so this was an instant favourite for me. The formula on this was also great - I experienced some patchiness on the second coat, but the third covered it up. It also went on very smooth and has a perfect consistency. 3 coats.

Well Isn't That Special is a purple linear holographic polish with subtle flakies. Whereas Bird is the Word (Family Guy collection) is more of a warm-toned purple, this is more of a cool-toned purple. The flakies are noticeable and make this unique in my books. The holo effect I would say is more of a medium holo - not as strong as the other two in this part. Application was excellent and I had no issues with this. 3 coats.

I know I've said this before, but the Fall Season Premiere collection is one of my favourite collections so far from Girly Bits. I just feel like there are so many great polishes, and something to fit different tastes and moods. Also there really wasn't a polish that I had issues with in terms of application, and that is always great to experience.

What do you think of these? You already know my favourite is More Cowbell, but what's yours?

Girly Bits Fall Season Premiere Collection: Part Two, Family Guy

Hi everyone! I have the second out three parts of the Girly Bits Fall Season Premiere collection. This time it's inspired by one of my all-time favourite cartoons, Family Guy. Okay, well pretty much the only cartoon I watch, but that's just a technicality. ;)

Girly Bits Fall Season Premiere Collection - Inspired by the Family Guy

I may never understand why Lois ended up falling for Peter Griffin, why Brian's the only one who understands Stewie, or how the show's writers get away with saying all the stuff they do. However, I do know that this collection is pretty awesome, and that's all that counts. Lol! The polishes and colours are all very strong (although I don't really know how well they fit the show), and I love the references in the titles.

Bird is the Word is a warm-toned purple with a scattered holo shimmer. I love that the holo is scattered - it makes it unique amongst the other indie holos. Also, the colour and shimmer is so beautiful. In terms of formula, it went on very smooth and even, but it didn't have as much coverage as the others. This was 3 coats, and while I was very happy with how it turned out, those with longer nails might have some visible nail line.

Giggity Giggity Goo is a nude linear holo. I love the colour - the polish has almost a silver/gold foil effect, and I feel like it could pass in more conservative work settings. The holo effect is light to medium and difficult to capture, but still very stunning - trust me.  This was 3 coats and I couldn't have asked for a better formula - I had no issues at all to report with this one. Side note: does anyone know what "giggity giggity goo" is supposed to mean, besides being that weird thing that Quagmire does?

This is such a stunning polish, but also hard to capture - hence the extra photo. :)

What the Deuce? is a bright kelly green with a subtle holo shimmer. I found the holo effect was very faint but more visible than you see in my photos. However, the shimmer is still beautiful, and that combined with the bright colour, makes this a pretty fun polish in my books. This was 2 coats, and it has an incredibly good formula - it goes on very smooth and has excellent coverage.

Girly Bits What the Deuce?

So there you have it! I feel like these are all strong polishes, in what is overall an excellent collection. It's really hard to pick a favourite but I'd have to say I'm leaning towards Giggity Giggity Goo. I love the combination of a nude colour with holo shimmer.

What is your favourite out of these three? Are you a Family Guy fan?
