Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez, My Picks: Part 2

Hi everyone! It's getting late here and I have to work early in the morning, so I will get to the swatches. This is the second and final post devoted to the NOPI Selena Gomez collection. You can see the first post here. Out of the 14 polishes in the collection, I ended up buying five of them when they first came out, and then one more a few days ago. The others just didn't speak to me, or didn't seem worth the $11 price tag, so I decided to pass.

Pretty in Plum: This is a beautiful warm plum with a not too subtle fuchsia shimmer. This may not be the most original polish, but I really love this colour. It's very vivid and a bit racy I think. The formula was also excellent. It wasn't streaky at all and levelled perfectly. I used two coats for this swatch. [Note: the colour in these photos is not exact, unfortunately my camera wasn't able to capture this one correctly. It is a warmer plum colour, leaning towards magenta.]

Sweet Dreams: This is very similar to Inner Sparkle in terms of the type of glitter and the formula, the only thing different is the colours. It's a clear-based glitter topper with tiny lavender hexes, and small-medium silver and teal hexes. This is one coat over Pretty in Plum. I really love this combination, especially the plum and teal together. Application-wise this one was a breeze. I had to do a bit of dabbing to get the glitter in the right place at times, but nothing too difficult.

Confetti Fun: This was the polish I went back for. Do you blame me? :) I don't have any rainbow glitters in my collection, so for me this is a fun addition. But if you do have other rainbow glitter toppers this might not be for you. Like Sweet Dreams and Inner Sparkle this is also clear-based and meant to be worn over another colour. But unlike the other two, it has what looks like micro glitter that makes it more interesting. The glitter is made up of small and medium hexes in a variety of colours - mainly silver, but also red, fuchsia, green, blue and yellow. This polish looks the best layered over light to medium value colours, and this is one coat over China Glaze For Audrey.

What do you think of these? Any favourites? Did you get any polishes from this collection?

Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez, My Picks: Part I

Hi everyone! Tonight I have some swatches from the Selena Gomez collection that recently came out. I'm not a fan of Selena Gomez (sorry!), not that I have anything against her, it just seems that her work targets a younger age group. But when I went into Shoppers around Christmas and saw the brand new display, I couldn't resist picking up a few. There's 14 in the collection, and I ended up getting five of them. Today I'll be showing three: Selena, Inner Sparkle, and Scarlett.

But first I wanted to explain why I went MIA with the blog yesterday. Feel free to skip down to the swatches if you're not interested. Last night I decided that I was going to set up a Facebook page for this blog. It seemed like such a no-brainer, I mean that's what you do when you set up a blog - eventually you venture into various social media platforms in order to get the word out and make your blog "better." Except trying to set up the page was a complete fiasco. It was so confusing, I couldn't set it up correctly, and then I gave up after about four hours and deleted everything. To make matters worse it prompted a blogger identity crisis. I started thinking to myself: "Why do I need a Facebook page, will it make me a better blogger?""Isn't this just going to take time away from producing better content?" Ugh!! So I haven't decided whether or not I'll try again with the Facebook page. But I'm interested in hearing from other bloggers who have Twitter, Facebook, or other social media accounts. Do you find it useful/rewarding/worthwhile?

Anyways, so back to the Selena Gomez collection! I've started to get into Nicole by OPI after ignoring them for awhile. For the most part I was really happy with the ones I picked out, but I didn't really feel the need to own more polishes out of this collection.

Selena: This is a really unusual polish for me, I tend not to pick out colours like this, but it caught my attention. It's a pale peachy pink with a very subtle shimmer. The shimmer is not very visible but does give the polish a luminosity. However, I wasn't really a fan of this when it was on my nails. First, I found the formula to be difficult. It was very thin, prone to pooling in the cuticles, and very streaky. This is three coats and there are still thin patches. Second, it's not the most flattering colour on me. It makes me feel like I have Barbie hands.

Inner Sparkle: This is a clear-based glitter topper. I really recommend wearing it over another colour. For these swatches, I used a makeup sponge to do a gradient over Selena. It has tiny gold hex glitter, and two sizes of pink and lavender hex glitter. I don't know if it's the most unique polish, but it has a good formula and great glitter payoff for layering over another polish.

Scarlett: I must have been in a daring mood when I bought these polishes, because this is also another polish that I don't usually go for. But I'm glad I picked this one up, not only it is really interesting, but it also has a great formula. It's an intense red-coral-fuchsia with a fiery red-gold shimmer. It almost seems like the shimmer is glass flecks because it is so bright. In the light box this polish has somewhat of a duochrome effect, but it also looks a bit flat. In real life this polish has a nice depth and glow to it. The formula was also excellent - this was two coats with excellent coverage and no issues of pooling or streaking.

So what do you think of this collection? Did you buy any of the Selena Gomez polishes?
