The story:
The Star Money is a story about a poor, orphaned girl. She is homeless and has no belongings except for her clothes and a loaf of bread. She's wandering through the countryside and comes across others who are hungry or in need of clothes, so she gives away her only possessions - the loaf of bread and all the clothes she is wearing. By then it is nighttime and she's left with nothing. Suddenly some of the stars fall from the sky and they become pieces of money, she also has been made a new shirt out of the finest linen. And she is rich for the rest of her life.

The design:
I imagined the moment when the girl is looking up at the stars in the night sky. I love this line from the story (English translation of course):
And as she so stood, and had not one single thing left, suddenly some stars from heaven fell down...

To get this look:
Like yesterday's design, I painted everything freehand in acrylics. I like to sketch out the design, add some colour, and then go over the lines where needed. I also used some watercolour technique where I'll paint on some thinned acrylic, then clean my brush, dip it in water, and spread the colour around.

- Base: OPI My Vampire is Buff
- Design: Acrylic paints in black and various shades of red, blue, yellow and green
- Brush: Pure Color Glamor 1 from Stylish Nail Art on Etsy
- Top coats: Girly Bits What a Rush and Essie Matte About You
The hardest part of this design was the face of course. I redid it twice before I got it right. At first I was trying to be very precise in my profile, but the third time, I use a slightly heavier touch and the side of my brush. And I love how it turned out, much better than trying to be cautious!

Those stars are cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I enjoyed painting them.
DeleteIt's just perfect, as the previous one. So delicate, and magical. It looks like a vintage children book's illustration :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Ere! And I was trying to give it an illustration look so I guess I succeeded.
DeleteThis mani is just beautiful! The girls face is really great. Star Money, or since I'm German "Sterntaler" has always beendet my favourite fairy tale!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Startaler - I like that name. For some reason I thought it translated to "tailor" but I see it's a kind of money. :)
DeleteYes, it's also a name for basically any kind of coin :-)
DeletePerfect, it looks just like a book cover!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurie!
DeleteStunning perfection as usual! LOVE!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sheila. :)
DeleteHi Meghan, I'd never heard of "The Star Money" before. Thanks for enlightening me! Your artwork is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cat! I actually had not heard of it before until this week. I wanted to find some different fairy tales so I turned to Wikipedia for help. ;)

ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful story! Your nails came out great! They look like they could be illustrations in an old book!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this story but it sounds great. I love anything to do with falling stars. And your interpretation of it is beautiful. Her face turned out lovely!
ReplyDeleteThis story is new to me ... I love how you've created the girls face. It reminds me a little of the E H Shephard drawings for Winnie the Pooh; it has a similarly sketchy style. Lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story. Your mani definitely does it justice.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard this story but it is beautiful and your manicure matches it perfectly. Love how you have painted the stars and her face!
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely loving your style this week so far. The illustrated technique is beautiful - it should be in a story book :)

ReplyDeleteIt's funny how the heavier hand gave such a delicate look to the face. It did, and I love it!
ReplyDeleteThese look like drawings right out of a book!
ReplyDeleteI had a brothers Grimm fairy tale book when I was small but I didn't know this one! Love the stars!
ReplyDeleteThese are so lovely. I especially love the rosy cheek on the girl :) it astounds me how many brother's grimm stories there are and I've loved seeing all the different fairy tales as well.
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous design and another beautiful tale!
ReplyDeleteOooh! Beautiful! Love the sketchy quality of this!
ReplyDeleteyou have this incredible ability to make what you do look like it's not been done on the nail or with polish. I can see this as a sketched tryptych in a gallery
