Aliquid Lacquer, Swatches and Review: Two Pleasant Peninsulas Collection

Hi everyone! Bright colours, and especially neons, are to be expected with summer collections - but the Aliquid Lacquer Two Pleasant Peninsulas Collection is anything but. For a summer collection, it's unique and unexpected, with some really strong colours and finishes.

The Two Pleasant Peninsulas Collection is inspired by the maker, Alison's home state of Michigan. I really love how she translated the various aspects of her home state into polishes. Read on for more details on each one, including the inspiration behind them. At the end of my post I also have a coupon code for you!

The Polish Bar, Swatches and Review: Electric Violet and Orchid 2014

Hi everyone! Last night I showed you some nail art featuring The Polish Bar's Orchid 2014, and I couldn't wait to show you swatches of this gorgeous polish. I've posted quite a few polishes from this brand, and while I enjoyed them all, I saved my favourite two for last.

The Nail Bites: Radiant Orchid with The Polish Bar Orchid 2014

Hi everyone! In the group of polishes that was sent to me from The Polish Bar was the absolutely stunning Orchid 2014 (review coming soon!). Of course I had to create some orchid-themed nail art to go with it! Naturally, Chalkboard Nails' stunning orchid mani was on my mind, which is near impossible to top. Instead, I decided to do something less detailed.

Nail Talk: Julep's Photoshopping Admission - Practical or Too Far?

Hi everyone! I haven't done a Nail Talk post in quite some time. To be honest, there really hasn't been much that I've been wanting to debate or discuss. But a recent article on the Julep blog has gotten me thinking about the practice of photoshopping nail photographs.

If you have suggestions for future Nail Talk posts, please leave a comment or email me: willpaintnailsforfood@gmail.com.

GOT Polish Challenge: Cone Flowers With Sally Hansen Lightening

Hi everyone! I'm still catching up with the "Golden Oldies Thursday" Challenge. Week three was yellow, so I pulled out one of my favourite and most used yellows...Sally Hansen Lightening.

GOT Polish Challenge: Zazzy Chevrons With Misa Lime Love

Hi everyone! I'm two weeks behind on the "Golden Oldies Thursday" challenge, and since I'm very determined to finish this time (not that I get a certificate or any kind of credential!), I'm going to be playing catchup. So I spent the last day pulling out a few of my favourite polishes to do some nail art. For more on the GOT Challenge, you can read my last post.

The Polish Bar Swatches and Review: City of Lights and Spring Reverie

Hi everyone! The Polish Bar is one of those brands that is known for their holo polishes. And so far my experience with them has been fantastic. City of Lights and Spring Reverie are a nice change from all the bright colours we've been seeing lately, and they'll appeal to those who want more subdued colours with a nice holo effect.

Pahlish Swatches and Review: Cauldron Spell, Lantern Waste, and Tashbaan

Hi everyone! In between taking time off from blogging and last week's Digit-al Dozen challenge, I have a few reviews to catch up on. First up is some Pahlish swatches I've been wanting to show for some time now. I have a pretty big collection of Pahlish polishes, and I love everything that Shannon, the maker, comes out with. These are no exception.

Pahlish Cauldron Spell, Lantern Waste and Tashbaan

Cauldron Spell, Lantern Waste and Tashbaan are from the "Woods Between the Worlds" collection. I'm not sure what the reference is, but maybe some of you will know. There are eight polishes in the collection, and these three are crellies with subtle and complementary mixes of glitter and flakes.

The Digit-al Dozen Does Countries and Cultures, Day Five: Talavera Pottery

Hi everyone! The end of Digit-al Dozen week always feels like a major achievement. Don't get me wrong, I love these weeks, but after two months away, I forgot how much of a challenge they are.

Talavera Pottery-inspired nail art

A few days ago when I did my Delftware-inspired nails, one reader, Lucy, commented that they reminded her of Talavera pottery from Puebla, Mexico. Intrigued, I had to look it up. While there are definitely some overlaps in Delftware and Talavera pottery, they are both very unique as well. I found some cute tile designs, and needing something simple, I thought they would be great for nail art. I hope you agree. :)

The Digit-al Dozen Does Countries and Cultures, Day Four: Wycinanki-Inspired Nails

Hi everyone! Papercutting is a fascinating art form. It's practiced in many different cultures, and I love that you have both the traditional papercutting styles, and contemporary artists who have taken it up. Wycinanki is the Polish art of papercutting.

I've been wanting to do Wycinanki-inspired nails for so long - I first thought of the idea when OPI released their Euro Centrale collection but just didn't have the time. Ironically, I used many of the Euro Centrale polishes in this design - the bright and colourful cremes were just perfect for this look.

The Digit-al Dozen Does Countries and Cultures, Day Three: Moroccan Doors

Hi everyone! For many, many years I've wanted to travel to Morocco. Maybe it's the photos or the exoticness, because I don't really know much about the country. I'm also one of those people who dreams of traveling and seeing the world, but I never get around to doing it. Trouble is, when I have the money I'm usually working too much, and when I have the time it's because I'm un/underemployed and can't justify spending the money. It's a dilemma I know!

Nail Polish Canada's Great Polish Giveaway of 2014

Hi everyone! I'm participating in The Great Polish Giveaway of 2014, hosted by Nail Polish Canada and sponsored by Cirque Colors, NCLA and piCture pOlish!

Basically, for every blogger that participates, NPC adds another polish to the prize. So the more bloggers that participate - the bigger the prize. Right now, the prize is at 64 polishes, but it could be even bigger than that. And each blogger gets to nominate the polish they want to add, so the winner will get a prize of polishes especially selected by a bunch of fabulous bloggers. You can see the full selection of prizes on the NPC website.

I selected piCture pOlish Paradise to add to the prize. It's one of my favourite collaboration shades, one of those polishes I just had to have when it came out!

The Digit-al Dozen Does Countries and Cultures, Day Two: Delftware Nail Art

Hi everyone! For day two of Countries and Cultures week I decided to turn to something that I’ve been wanting to do for awhile now. Delftware is a type of pottery that came from the Delft region in the Netherlands, you would probably recognize the white background with the blue painted decoration. I love Delftware and I especially love the fact that you can find both historical and contemporary Delftware in a range of styles - whether it’s traditional motifs (windmills, farmers, etc.), floral arrangements, or more contemporary designs.

The Digit-al Dozen Does Countries and Cultures, Day One: Impressionist Paris

Hi everyone! I'm participating in my first Digit-al Dozen challenge since April, and I couldn't be more excited about this month's prompt. I'm kicking off the week with some feminine nail art inspired by Impressionist Paris and Monet's paintings of water lilies. I'm also doing a review of some water decals that were sent to me by the Born Pretty Store.

The Polish Bar Pastel Holo Collection for Spring 2014

Hi everyone! If bright colours are not your taste, then summer collections can be hard to sit through. If you enjoy softer pastel shades, The Polish Bar's Pastel Holo collection might be right up your alley.

Some pastels can be difficult for people to wear, especially if they have the chalky Easter egg look. These pastels are subtle and muted, and I think more flattering because of it. The holo effect doesn't hurt either, and gives these colours and nice understated beauty.

Intricate Stripes For Independence Day

Hi everyone! Happy Fourth of July if you celebrate! Obviously I'm in Canada, so it was just another day here. But I lived in the US for many years and have family there, so I was feeling in the mood to do some nail art for the holiday.

GOT Polish Challenge: Graphic Lilies With Rescue Beauty Lounge

Hi everyone! I'm trying once again to do the GOT Polish Challenge. If you aren't familiar with it, GOT stands for "Golden Oldies Thursdays." Basically you use something from your stash that is at least a year old. I've started this challenge three times and dropped out after the first two or three prompts. So maybe this time will be a winner!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Aqua Lily

Today's prompt is turquoise, and I had so many great choices, but in the end I went with Rescue Beauty Lounge's Aqua Lily. It's closer to a teal, but still within the turquoise family I think. I bought this beauty when it was rereleased sometime last year, and it sat in the untried pile until now! Shame!

Read on to find out my thoughts on this polish and the nail art I did with it.

I'm Back! And Happy Canada Day!

Hi everyone! Look, a blog post! Thank you everyone who commented on my last update post - I really appreciated all the support. In case you missed it, I've been finishing up my dissertation this past month and a half. I'm not 100% finished, but I have a bit of a break while my committee looks over everything, so I'm going to take some time to schedule some posts.

As for my life this past month and a half - let's just say I'm eager to get back to blogging. I think things can be summed up with this picture...
