The Neverending Pile Challenge: Day 8, Boutique: Gothic Floral With Illamasqua Gothiqua

Hi everyone! I'm plodding along with the Neverending Pile Challenge. For the boutique prompt, I decided to pull out a polish I've been dying to try since I bought it, but never got around to using it. Funny how that works right?! And while I feel only so-so about the polish, I love the nail art.

The Neverending Pile Challenge: Day 7, Drugstore Polish: Crazy, Colourful Stripes

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend! I actually felt very productive, I spent most of the day making polishes and was able to get a few batches finalized and ready to bottle. If you follow my indie brand, Renaissance Cosmetics, you may have noticed it's been awhile since I've released anything - I've just been very busy with work. So I'm happy to soon be in a position to show some new stuff.

Nire's Desire, Techno Collection Phase Two: Drowning, Pleasure Island and Transatlantic

Hi everyone! The other day I showed you a preview of three polishes from Nire's Desire with some peacock nail art. And as promised I have swatches and a review of those three polishes. These are from the Techno Collection, Phase Two - six holographic polishes that are all blue shades and when put together form a perfect ombre effect. There was also a Phase One to this collection that consisted of some gorgeous rose to violet coloured holos - Sassy Shelly has some beautiful swatches of that collection.

The Neverending Pile Challenge: Day Six, Indie: Grungy Peacock with Nire's Desire

Hi everyone! It's very rare that I'm able to do two posts in one day, but as I told you earlier I'm trying to play catch up with these challenges. So I have another design I did for the Neverending Pile Challenge. I was recently sent some polishes from Erin at Nire's Desire, and for whatever reason I felt that they would make the perfect peacock design.

The Neverending Pile Challenge: Day 5, Jelly: Sunsational Spring Flowers

Hi everyone! I sort of fell off the wagon last week when it comes to the challenges I'm participating in. I find it difficult to do five posts for the Digit-al Dozen, plus do additional posts on top of that. So I'm playing a bit of catch up. Tuesday, I finished a bunch of work that had been hanging over my head, so yesterday I took the day off and got some swatching done, plus I was able to do two challenge manis. It felt really good.

Aliquid Lacquer Silmarillion Collection: Swatches and Review

Hi everyone! Aliquid Lacquer is a new-to-me indie polish brand. The owner Alison is a PhD student like myself, and is based out of the US (Massachusetts to be exact). Please do check out her Etsy shop, she's got some gorgeous shimmers and glitter/shimmer combos, and she sells her polishes in mini and full sizes. She also sells lip balms - I was able to try one, so I've included my thoughts on that as well.

If you are interested in trying the brand, I have a coupon code for you! All the details are at the end of the post.

The Digit-al Dozen Does Texture, Day Five: Freehand Lace Flowers

Hi everyone! This is my fifth and final design for Digit-al Dozen texture week. I don't know about you, but I felt this prompt was kind of a mixed bag for me - not the most inspiring of the prompts I've done with the group. However, I always have a feeling of satisfaction when I finish a Digit-al Dozen challenge week. This week is no different.

The Digit-al Dozen Does Texture, Day Four: Matte Velvet - Distressed and Fractured

Hi everyone! Yet again, I'm playing catch-up with my Digit-al Dozen posts. If you're interested, I hope to post my fifth and final mani this weekend.

The Digit-al Dozen Does Texture, Day Three: Woodgrain

Hi everyone! I know I said yesterday that I was excited about my design, but I'm very excited for today's look. After much internal debate, I finally caved and bought some acrylic paints a few weeks ago. For various reasons I felt that real nail art used nail polish, which is silly - when you look at the work of professional nail artists, some stick to polish exclusively, while others use acrylics. Now that I have them, I'm over the internal debate, and excited for the possibilities. I love intricate work, and acrylics can make detail work a lot easier - at least that's what I hope to explore.

The Digit-al Dozen Does Texture, Day Two: JulieG Dotticure

Hi everyone! I am excited about today's design. Yesterday I posted a more subdued look with Zoya's Pixie Dusts. Today I'm turning to another texture polish collection in my stash - the Jesse's Girl JulieG Frosted Gum Drops collection. I was able to get my hands on these thanks to my friend Joy, and can you believe I have yet to use them?!

The Digit-al Dozen Does Texture, Day One: Pixie Dust Gradient

Hi everyone! It's that time of the month ... no, not that time of the month, that other time of the month ... Digit-al Dozen week!!

*awkward silence*

Pixie Dust gradient

This month the theme is texture. Straightforward, no? Like any other challenge, it can be interpreted in so many ways - textured polishes, painted texture, studs ... you get the picture. Okay, so you'll want to check out the inlinkz at the end of the post. We have several new members added to the mix and I'm very excited to have them in the group.

The Neverending Pile Challenge: Day 3, Random: Beautiful Distressed with Shimmer Jennifer

Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying your weekend. Here, I'm feeling a bit sad - we're having the first truly gorgeous weekend with lots of sun and warm temperatures, and I'm stuck inside with a huge pile of marking. It's like tax season for academics. Booo.

Nail Talk: Where Do You Go for Inspiring Nail Art / Nail Art Inspiration?

Hi everyone! I enjoyed the last Nail Talk post, and it was really fun to discuss the issue of multichromes with you, so I thought why not do it again?! I think most people visiting this blog at least have an interest in nail art. And even if you don't do nail art yourself, you may have blogs or places you like to go to look at inspiring nail art. I divided this question into two parts for two reasons - first, I know not everyone reading this does nail art themselves, and second, sometimes we are inspired by things other than nail art.

If you have suggestions for future Nail Talk posts, please leave a comment or email me: willpaintnailsforfood@gmail.com.

The question: Where do you go to see inspiring nail art? And if you do nail art, where do you go for nail art inspiration?

My response: I was thinking about this the other day when I was writing my Queen post for The Digit-al Dozen. I find it very hard to be continually inspired when it comes to nail art. Sometimes when I'm doing a lot of challenges, after awhile, I have a hard time coming up with good ideas.

It's also very hard to come up with original ideas. I like to look at other things (besides nail art) when I'm thinking of ideas I'd like to carry out. Art is a favourite of mine, and when I walk through a museum I find myself thinking, "that would look good on my nails" lol! But like many other nail artists and bloggers I tend to get a lot of ideas from image searches on the internet.

As for inspiring nail art, I tend to be really inspired by very intricate nail art, which is not something that's seen very often. I like Pisut Masanong's work whom I learned about on Facebook. I'd love to find more people that do work like this. On Instagram I love Super Fly Nails and Astro Wifey. And I often am inspired by my friend Lindsey at Wondrously Polished. There's a lot more obviously, but in my pre-coffee state, this is what immediately comes to mind.

So tell me - what/who are you inspired by?

All comments are greatly appreciated, but comments with blog links will be deleted - this is always the case but I wanted to post a reminder.

GOT Polish Challenge, Coral: Simple Spring Nails With Dior Spring Ball

Hi everyone! At first I wasn't sure if I could participate in today's Golden Oldies Challenge. I couldn't recall if I owned any corals that fit the requirements (close to a year old, already tried). But a simple "find" search in the good ol' stash spreadsheet revealed that I had at least 10 that fit the bill. Oops!

Simple spring nails with Dior Spring Ball

I ended up settling on Dior Spring Ball, and I knew that I wanted to do something that was simple and classy. I really love how this turned out, and it has a very feminine, springtime feel to it.

The Neverending Pile Challenge: Day 2, Pastels: Essie Spring Geometric

Hi everyone! Before I get into today's post, I want to let you know about a feature I did over at the Digit-al Dozen blog. I don't really talk much about my life here, but if you're interested in reading more about me and why I started this blog, maybe you'll want to check it out! There's also a rare selfie - gasp!

Essie Spring 2014 Geometric Abstract

So day two into the Neverending Pile Challenge, and I'm still going strong! Today's theme was pastels, so I decided to turn to some recent untrieds - the Essie Spring 2014 collection.

The Neverending Pile Challenge: Day 1, Glitter: Peridot Power and Funky Flowers

Hi everyone! I'm starting a new challenge today. The Neverending Pile Challenge was created by Missy of Gnarly Gnails. If you're interested in joining, it's running through a group on Facebook called the Glittah Pirates (arrrrr!). The point of the challenge is to use your untrieds - those polishes that you bought with good intentions but have sat collecting dust. I have way too many, and with my goal this year to use more of my polishes, this challenge (along with the GOT Challenge) are perfect for me.

GOT Polish Challenge, Pastels: Springtime Florals So Adorable They Defy Categorization!!!

Hi everyone! This title might be a *slight* exaggeration. This is my way of saying, "I don't know what to call this design!" Earlier in the year I started the GOT Polish Challenge, but unfortunately I fell off the bandwagon. Basically you are supposed to use older polishes in your collection - which falls in line with my goal to use what I have instead of buying new polishes. So I'm going to try and jump back into the challenge, at least as much as I can.

Nail Talk: Multichromes - "More Please!" or "Had Enough!"

Hi everyone! I'm trying something new over here - let me know what you think! I've always wanted this blog to be more interactive. Last year I did a short series of "From the Readers" posts - something that I plan to do again real soon. But I thought it would be fun to do some discussion-style posts. This is just a trial run - I'll do a few and if it doesn't work out, I might not continue.

The Nail Bites: Faded Roses

Hi everyone! Although it does not look like it, this work was originally inspired by Warhol's screen prints. I remember in some of his works, how he would repeat an image then gradually fade it as it reads from one side of the work to the other. You can see this in one of his Marilyn works at the Tate.

China Glaze City Flourish: Part Two, Pollen In Love

Hi everyone! Long time, no blog, eh!? Well technically it's been about five-six days since my last post - I've just been really busy with work. Which reminds me... over the next few months I may not be as active here. I'm trying to finish up my dissertation by August, and I may take a mini hiatus every now and then.

China Glaze City Flourish: Part Two Pollen In Love

But I finally have the second part of the China Glaze City Flourish collection for you. If you missed part one, make sure to check that out! I know there's been a lot of reviews already, but if you're still on the fence about these polishes, I have my thoughts on the collection as a whole at the end of this post.
