Cirque Colors Mirror Mirror, Review and Nail Art

Hi everyone! Cirque Mirror Mirror, a silver metallic flake topper, is certainly unique amongst the growing number of metallic polishes available on the market. Which explains why this beauty has been selling out so quickly. I had hoped to time my review to a recent restock, but the polish sold out too quickly. So if you are interested in this I highly recommend following Cirque, and subscribing to their newsletter.

Instead of showing you the usual swatches, I decided to do some nail art instead. I created two looks with this polish, one easier and one more time consuming. Both I think take advantage of the unique properties of this polish.

About this polish:

Mirror Mirror is described as a "highly reflective lacquer made with pure silver-coated flakes creating a mosaic mirror finish." The colour is more of a very, very pale gold, or silver with a slight gold tint. It's made up of tiny metallic flakes in a clear base. It's very dense, but you could layer one coat over a base colour, or build up to full opacity in two coats. To see what it looks like on its own, Love Varnish and The Nail Polish Challenge have great swatches.

If you choose to layer it, one coat will give you a lot of coverage, with just a bit of base peeking through. You can also clean off your brush and lightly drag it for a more subtle effect.

To get these looks:

Because I've seen so many swatches of this polish I decided to do some nail art instead. The gradient is relatively simple and doesn't require any tools, while the tape manicure is slightly more time consuming and requires striping tape or nail vinyls.

Look #1:
Start with a base polish and let dry (about 20 minutes). I used Orly Darkest Shadow. Clean off most of the polish from the brush by wiping against the side of the bottle. Start by painting along the top of the nail, then lightly drag your brush down, creating a gradient effect.

You can go back and add more polish where needed. Just make sure to clean off almost all of the polish off the brush and drag with a light hand.

Look #2:
Addendum: this mani was inspired by one I saw by Missbellatracey on Instagram. My apologies for not mentioning that in the earlier version of this post.

Start with your base polish - I used Renaissance Cosmetics Out of the Darkness. Top with a quick dry top coat and allow to dry at least 30 minutes. You don't want to pull up the base polish. Using striping tape or nail vinyls, press them on your hand to remove some of the stickiness before placing them on the nail.

Once they are in place, carefully paint Mirror Mirror until most of the area is covered, then remove tape immediately.

For both looks I used Girly Bits What a Rush for my top coat, and Essie Matte About You for the second look.

Final thoughts:

Mirror Mirror is fairly dense, so even with nail art, you have to be careful. But it's very workable, and I love how versatile it is. Most people will probably wear it on it's own, but I really love how it looks in nail art. I think you could do a lot with this polish.

Availability:

Mirror Mirror is available from Cirque Colors, although it's currently out of stock until early January. I also recommend checking their stockists to see if you can get it someplace else. And make sure you are following Cirque on Facebook and Instagram for updates.

Mirror Mirror retails for $18, and while that's on the high end for nail polish, it's very unique and worth the money if you love metallic flake polishes.

What do you think of Mirror Mirror? Which look is your favourite?
