As an indie maker (still feels weird to refer to myself that way) I get to play with glitter all the time. But if you told me two or three years ago that I'd have a ginormous glitter collection, I probably would have scoffed at you. Now I have glitters in every colour of the rainbow, in different sizes, finishes, even some cool shapes (although I'm not big into shape glitter). It's such a huge part of making polish, so tonight's mani is my glitter tribute.
About this look:
At first glance this nail art does not scream "glitter," but lately I've been into very small sized glitter, and especially micro glitter. I'm also very into crellies with micro glitter mixes. So the polishes suit my tastes and what I've been working on rather than what typically might fit the theme of glitter.

I wanted to do something simple, something that complemented but didn't compete with the base polish, so I did some loose, sketchy flowers. I was inspired by this mani I did for last years 31 Day Challenge.

To get this look:
The base polish and the deep midnight blue are both prototypes. Shameless plug - I'm having a prototype sale tomorrow (well technically later today). The midnight blue is available there, so is a version of the light grey crelly, except it's a white crelly with blue glitter mix.

Final thoughts:
I love that the base polish has a nice mix of glitter, but it's still possible to do nail art on top without it getting too busy. The midnight blue has a gorgeous shimmer and the bits of glitter added some extra sparkle to the flowers.
What do you think of this? What are your favourite glitter polishes?

ReplyDeleteThank you! I couldn't agree more. Not to say I don't love larger glitters, but I've seen so many already, and I'm glad the tides are turning to smaller sized glitter.

DeleteHi Meghan,
ReplyDeleteDo you use nail polish thinner or acetone to thin out the black polish? I love your 'sketchy flowers'. Are there any tutorials you have posted as to how to achieve this look? Do you find it easier with the polish or do you think acrylic paint might work too? Love, love, love your nail art and nail polishes. Thanks so much!

Hi Amy! I use nail polish thinner to thin the black polish. The acetone evaporates and dries up very fast where the thinner stays wet on my palette longer. And I definitely think that acrylic would work for this too. My acrylics are slow drying - which is good when I want to mix a lot of colours, because they stay wet on the palette for awhile. But for simple things like this I just prefer to use polish. I hope that helps, and thanks for the nice comment! :)
DeleteWill give that a try. Appreciate the help.
DeleteWell I can't say I'm particularly thankful for glitter, but this is a stunning mani!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love feathering flowers like this. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the sketchiness of this - even how the colour is faded in parts and intense in others
