The Digit-al Dozen Does Thankfulness: Day One, Yummy Sushi

Hi everyone! This week the Digit-al Dozen turns to the theme of thankfulness in all it's widest forms. I have so much to be thankful for - family, health, my completed PhD, but in the end I decided to look at the little things I'm thankful for, rather than trying to depict big weighty themes. So for day one, I'm looking at one of my favourite foods - yummy sushi!

About this look:

Not only is sushi incredibly yummy, it's also very cute! Take for example cute sushi illustrations, yummy sushi pyjamas, cats on sushi (I don't get this one but it's pretty cute!), and of course, lil' sushis on my nails. :) Therefore, I rest my case - sushi is awesome.

To get this look:

I painted this entire design freehand. I'm not going to lie, it was time-consuming - about three hours from start to finish. I used my Pure Glamor No. 1 detailer from Stylish Nail Art on Etsy - unfortunately the shop is still closed, hopefully one day it will reopen.

The basic technique for doing this design is simple - using black thinned with nail polish thinner, I lightly painted the outlines for each item. I coloured everything in, then finished by outlining with black. I mixed some colours, while others I used the nail polish unmixed. I always use nail polish thinner when doing this kind of work - it makes it easier to paint with the polish.

Rather than go through the steps of how I did this, here's a list of polished used:

  • Base: China Glaze Five Rules
  • White: Cult Nails Tempest
  • Black: Cult Nails Nevermore
  • Greens: Sally Hansen Lickety-Split Lime and OPI Jade is the New Black
  • Brown: OPI You Don't Know Jacques!
  • Orange: Sally Hansen Firey Island (mix with white to get salmon colour)
  • Yellow: Sally Hansen Lightening
  • Red: Essie Snap Happy
  • Top Coats: KBShimmer Clearly On Top and Essie Matte About You

Final thoughts:

I wore this for two days, and I felt so giddy about this design. I feel like everyone should have yummy sushis on their nails. Seriously, it was a blast! :)

Do you love sushi? What do you think of my yummy sushi nails?

  9. I would be thankful for sushi but the nearest place to here is 30 mins drive and it's not even good sushi. Oh for the days I worked in the city and had two different sushi places within 10m of the office door.
