Minimalist watercolour poppies |
About this look:
Last year during the 31 Day Challenge I started off with some painterly poppies. I've been wanting to paint poppies ever since, but I wanted to do them different somehow. I started looking at watercolours and came across some very minimalist paintings, and knew I had to recreate the look. This design actually came before the daisies I posted earlier this week.

To get this look:
I explained the basic technique in my previous post, so I will not go into much detail here.

- Base: Sally Hansen White On (seal with quick dry top coat)
- Poppies: Essie Snap Happy (red) and Sally Hansen Firey Island (orange)
- Stem: OPI Jade is the New Black (muted dark green) and Essie Shearling Darling (dark red)
- Top Coats: KBShimmer Clearly On Top and Essie Matte About You
- Brush: Winstonia Store Kolinksy #000
The photos unfortunately look a bit washed out - I think the bright white background makes my camera freak out a bit. But I think you can still get the big picture. I love the delicacy of this look - as I mentioned in my last post, the key is to work with a light touch and barely any polish on the brush.
