The Digit-al Dozen Does Floral: Day Four, Watercolour Poppies

Hi everyone! Remember my watercolour daisies from a few days ago? Well I mentioned that I had done a second look that was very similar - and this is it! Not only that, but I was able to capture a short video of how I painted it, I'll be sharing that on Instagram and YouTube in the very near future.

About this look:

Last year during the 31 Day Challenge I started off with some painterly poppies. I've been wanting to paint poppies ever since, but I wanted to do them different somehow. I started looking at watercolours and came across some very minimalist paintings, and knew I had to recreate the look. This design actually came before the daisies I posted earlier this week.

To get this look:

I explained the basic technique in my previous post, so I will not go into much detail here.

  • Poppies: Essie Snap Happy (red) and Sally Hansen Firey Island (orange)
  • Stem: OPI Jade is the New Black (muted dark green) and Essie Shearling Darling (dark red)
  • Top Coats: KBShimmer Clearly On Top and Essie Matte About You
  • Brush: Winstonia Store Kolinksy #000

Final Thoughts:

The photos unfortunately look a bit washed out - I think the bright white background makes my camera freak out a bit. But I think you can still get the big picture. I love the delicacy of this look - as I mentioned in my last post, the key is to work with a light touch and barely any polish on the brush.

  2. I think I need better skills.

(I can see the Kenzo connection Frankie mentioned, and I love this mani even more for it - Kenzo was a longtime favourite perfume of mine.)
