OPI Damone Roberts 1968 + Renaissance Cosmetics Kensington |
Fortuitously I was wearing Renaissance Cosmetics Kensington at the time, and I remember thinking - well aren't these looking good together! So I decided to create a simple chevron design with the two.
About OPI Damone Roberts 1968:
Damone Roberts 1968 is described as a pistachio green creme. To me it also looks like a really muted pea soup green. It's such a unique colour, one I normally wouldn't buy, but I found that it looked pleasant with my skin tone. I didn't experience the dreaded lobster hands that I normally get with pale mint polishes.

Formula wise it was really good. It's a bit sheer at first but builds up nicely to a very even finish. I used 3 coats for these swatches.

To get this look:
I topped my swatch with a quick dry top coat and once that was dry I used chevron nail vinyls from nailvinyls.com. I find it's best to stick them to your skin 2-3 times to remove some of the tact. Then I applied a generous coat of Renaissance Cosmetics Kensington. I love the shimmer of Kensington and how it contrasts to the creme base.

Final thoughts:
I feel conflicted showing this, because if you follow the Renaissance Facebook page or Instagram you'll know I've had trouble making another batch of Kensington. At the same time, it's a striking look, and probably one of my best, and cleanest, chevron manis.

If you're looking at swatches of Damone Roberts 1968 I suggest looking at a lot of photos. Unfortunately it's a hard one to capture and the colour in a lot of photos looks off. I do believe my swatches are pretty close, but only after adjusting the colour in Photoshop.
What do you think of this design? Did you pick up OPI Damone Roberts 1968?
I think this combination is beautiful! And your chevrons are just flawless :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Kelli!
DeleteSo pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa!
DeleteThis is such a striking combination that I probably would never have thought to try! I really hope you're able to make more of Kensington, it was at the top of my Renaissance wishlist!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have thought to combine the two if I didn't see them side by side. And I definitely will try to remake Kensington. I know lots of people want to get that one. :/
DeleteLove love love... what an awesome colour combo!
ReplyDeleteThanks you Lindsay!
DeleteBeautiful! I love Damone Roberts 1968! It's crazy how it can look like completely different color on one person. Mine looked like a sagey mint color against my skintone!
ReplyDeleteThat is odd! It's such an unusual colour either way!
DeleteThis is a pretty combo! I love the two colors together. Kensington is so gorgeous! By the way, I had no idea you were the creator of Renaissance Cosmetics! That is so awesome.
ReplyDeleteYes that's me! Thanks so much Melissa!
DeleteHow special to receive such an exclusive polish as a gift! And it looks fabulous with the purple :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily!
DeleteI really, REALLY dig the color of DR1968 but the only way I'll ever own it is if I'm gifted with it. I did purchase two greens I fancied might look similar this summer (one of which was also a nightmare to photograph and both for less than $20 including S&A, so I'm placated on that front). Good on your friend! Kensington is beautiful and I hope you're able to figure the recipe out again.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way, if it hadn't been gifted, I probably wouldn't own it, but I'm glad I have it. And thanks for the comments about Kensington. :)
DeleteRenaissance Cosmetics Kensington is stunning and this is such a great combo!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Francine!
DeleteGorgeous! I love Kensington, I'm glad I caved and ordered just before the crisis ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got your hands on it! You're timing was perfect. :)
DeleteThis combo is awesome... I immediately thought of Frankenstein. I love your nail art design, so fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks Honey! I never would have thought of that, but I can see why you did!
DeleteStunning combo! Kensington is so perfect <3
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily!
DeleteA combination I wouldn't have thought of, but that looks amazing on the nails!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deborah!
DeleteWhat a great nail art! I have a bottle of ghetto original DR, but I've never opened it! Crazy, right?
ReplyDeleteThe Original! Not ghetto. Wth, autocorrect.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I think autocorrect gets worse with every update! You definitely need to try it - that's too long to go without wearing it.
DeleteYour lines look fab!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie!
DeleteI don't know how I missed this post! I did a Google search of Kensington for some reason after it was asked about in the RC group and this was a hit. You actually just inspired my mani for today. So that is a gift back!
ReplyDeleteOh yay!! I really love this polish, I couldn't bear to get rid of it in the great destash. Thanks again for the great gift!
