31 Day Nail Art Challenge 2.0: Day Nine, Stripes

Hi everyone! Today's challenge had me in a conundrum - how can one make stripes interesting? What makes stripes appealing, or unappealing? I pondered, then my head hurt, so I opted for simplicity instead. But if you follow this blog much, you might already know that simplicity doesn't always equate to less time spent. And that was the case here.

About this design:

I found this black and blue pinstripe design on the Nail Art Gallery website and decided to do a variation. Simple enough I thought! After doing a few intricate designs I needed a bit of a rest. However, I spent way too much time trying to figure out the details: What should my base polish be? Should I do an accent nail? What colours should I use? Should I make this look grungy? In the end I felt I was overthinking it, and stuck with the basic idea.

Final thoughts:

In the end I love how this turned out. I generally tend towards detailed thin stripes, like my intricate stripe designs, but I love this more minimal look. And after I decided on colours, it was very easy. It also inspires me to do more pinstripe designs!

  6. I normally like the precision that striping tape gives stripes but I adore these! They look so simple, but I know how that goes!!! (I usually end up having to re-do the base and then use aids to help with lines!)

    1. Thanks! I admire those who can do stripes with striping tape, but it takes me 20x as long because I fuss over the placing. So it's easier for me to eyeball and do them freehand. Go figure!
