The Digit-al Dozen Does The Terrific Twos, Day Four: China Patterns

Hi everyone! I have a quick, late night post for you tonight! As part of The Digit-al Dozen's two year anniversary celebration, we're taking on a variety of themes, and today it happens to be china patterns. China (the dishes, not the country) is a "modern" gift for a second wedding anniversary, so it seemed only fitting to take on this idea while we pat ourselves on the back for making it this long.

About this design:

A quick Google search confirmed what I already suspected - that I could probably do a week, or even two, or three, of just china patterns. There are so many possibilities from traditional florals, to more exotic looks, to retro designs, and very contemporary.

But after a week of doing freehand painted nail art, I felt like I needed a break from my detailed brushes. Luckily I found a great design courtesy of Pickard China. I love the delicate dots, and the fact that it is basically a dotted gradient.

To get this look:

Using my smallest dotting tool I started with the dark dots towards the tip of my nails. Then I followed with the gold dots trying to create a gradient by having some dots "trickle" down the nail. I also did some gold dots on top of the brown to integrate the two.

  • Dots: OPI You Don't Know Jacques! + Cult Nails Nevermore (mixed to make dark brown), and Essie Good as Gold
  • Trim: Essie Good as Gold
  • Top Coat: KBShimmer Clearly On Top

Final Thoughts:

I love the simplicity of the design, and I love the inspiration for this. Apparently the designer, Kelly Wearstler, was inspired by Art Deco and Japanese art. Very cool!

What do you think of this?

    1. Thanks Shelby! I forgot to mention the gold tips, but yes, it seemed like a necessary addition for a china pattern. ;)

  3. I recently had a challenge where the prompt was "tea party". I'm with you, I could probably do a whole month of china/teapot inspired nail art. Now my inspiration file is packed with tea cup/pot images! This is a stunning take on your inspiration! Plus it could translate into so many different color combos!

    1. Thanks Tina! What a great idea for a challenge, I know I'll probably be revisiting some of the designs I didn't get to do. I agree, this dot gradient could be done in so many colours.
