The Digit-al Dozen Does The Terrific Twos, Day One: Things That Come in Pairs

Hi everyone! As I mentioned in my last blog post, I'll be posting extra this week. That's because this happens to be Digit-al Dozen week. And this one is special because it's the second anniversary of the group. I haven't been with the group for the whole time, but I'm happy to be celebrating alongside everyone.

The themes this week revolve around the idea of "twos." Today it's things that come in pairs. For some reason I instantly thought of salt and pepper shakers. I don't know why, but I decided to run with it.

About this design:

I wanted my salt and pepper shakers to be slightly painterly - they have some indications of shadows (you can see on the chrome). But they are not highly realistic.

To get this look:

  • Base: China Glaze Five Rules
  • Bottles: Sally Hansen White On, touch of Cult Nails Nevermore mixed to make grey
  • Salt: Sally Hansen White On
  • Pepper: OPI You Don't Know Jacques! China Glaze Boundary of Memory
  • Chrome: Essie No Place Like Chrome, touch of black mixed to make shadow
  • Top Coats: Cult Wicked Fast, and Essie Matte About You

Final Thoughts:

I really love how these turned out. They have a fun vibe, and when I finished them I had to show a sneak peak on my Instagram. I don't always do that but every now and then I just can't wait to show something. The only disappointment was the Wicked Fast for the top coat. It ended up smearing my design slightly, even after waiting 20+ minutes. It's good for swatches but perhaps not for nail art.

What do you think of this?

    1. Thank you! I think it would have been odd without the shadows, so I'm happy those details worked out. :)

  12. pure genius. As much as i love the design, i think it's the overall neutrality of the colours that make this one such a winner xx
