Romantic roses with Orly Smoky collection |
I have a love/hate relationship with metallic polishes. I remember when the Essie Mirror Metallics collection came out, the swatches were, well, unappealing. Many of the reviews said something to the tune of "These aren't great on their own, but they'd be fantastic for stamping." So I've always seen metallics as stamping polishes. Since I don't stamp, you can probably see why my metallic nails are not that metallic-y.
About this look:
This was actually my second attempt for Day Seven. My first one was a very, very horrible attempt to do foils. I love foils, but I don't have the right glue, so everything just goes terribly wrong. But I recently bought the Orly Smoky collection, which I plan to review very soon. There's a few shimmery, almost metallic shades in that collection, so I used those polishes as my inspiration for some romantic, somewhat vintage looking roses.

To get this look:
I used several polishes from the Orly Smoky collection, along with my favourite gold, Orly Luxe. I normally like to do a matte top coat for nail art, but glossy seemed so perfect in this case. So my apologies for the glare in these photos.

Final Thoughts:
While this may not scream "metallic" I'm considering this a pass given that Luxe, Edgy, and, to a lesser degree, Dark Shadow, are metallic shades. I'm just so in love with the Smoky collection that I couldn't wait to do some nail art with it. So my earlier failed attempt was actually a relief!
What do you think of this? Have you picked up any of Orly's fall collection?

These look perfect for fall!

DeletePretty! I like that it's a not-as-girly take on roses!
ReplyDeleteThanks Valesha! That's interesting, maybe it's the colours? The grey base is a bit different. :)
DeleteVery pretty! I tend to stay away from metallic polishes because I don't use them regularly in nail art, but you make them look great here! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Emily. The gold is a staple for me, but otherwise I don't use many metallic polishes, they seem to get dusted off for this prompt. Lol! ;)
DeleteThese are so cute, I love the depth on the dots!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I tried dots with just gold, but it didn't stand out as much, I like this better. :)
DeleteI love this look! It's classy and sexy, and I love how you made the dots three dimensional :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kelli - I agree with you there.
