Finger Paints Poolside Paradise Collection, Swatches and Review

Hi everyone! Do you ever buy a collection because it looked so great in swatches or bottle shots, only to feel "meh" about them in person? I think that would be an apt way to describe my feelings about this summer collection from Finger Paints.

The Finger Paints Poolside Paradise collection came out sometime in June. I bought them as a pick me up while I was working on my dissertation. It consists of 6 bright coloured foil polishes with a jelly-like consistency. As far as I know, Finger Paints is only available at Sally Beauty Supply (sorry international folks!). It's possible these may be discontinued, but you might find them on clearance or through a blog sale.

Formula and application: All six had really great formulas - they go on evenly and smooth. The green was too sheer for my taste, but the others had great coverage.

Aloha Lei is an orange foil shimmer. This was 2 coats

Be My Baby is a red/magenta foil shimmer. I wasn't able to capture the colour accurately - reds are difficult to colour adjust but red foils are impossible. It's more cool-toned / magenta in colour. This is 2 coats.

Hula Aruba! is a yellow foil shimmer. This is 2 coats.

Margarita Mambo is a green foil shimmer. This is 3 coats.

Surf's Up is a blue foil shimmer. This is 3 coats.

Wild Bikini is a purple foil shimmer. This is 2 coats.

I also did a gradient using Aloha Lei, Be My Baby and and Wild Bikini. I topped it with Cult Nails Wax That.

Final Thoughts: These shades are fun, bright, and shimmery, and the price (approximately $5 each) is hard to pass up. So why did I feel only "meh" about these? For me they are just too bright, and too intense. Foils can be pretty intense to begin with, and combined with the bright colours, it's too much for me. I'm sure others will enjoy these fun shades though. Out of the six my favourite were Surf's Up and Wild Bikini - they don't bother me as much as the others.

On a side note, the names were a bit of a disappointment for me. In the past, Finger Paints always had cleverly named polishes that related to fine art. As an art history major, this was one of the appealing aspects of this line. It seems that's changed with the newer collections.

What do you think of this collection? Were you able to get any of them?

  1. Got them all! I love the brightness of them. Your gradient with them is lovely IMO.

  2. Wild Bikini is my favourite too, I love that shade of purple. I can see why you feel these are a bit too bright, but I think combined with some darker nail art (stamping?) they could look great :)

  3. These are pretty! I bet they look extra good outside with the sun on them too.

  4. I don't know how I feel about these, they're pretty but I feel like I've seen similar polishes before. I do have to agree that Surf's Up and Wild Bikini are the best of the bunch. Your gradient is really pretty too!

  5. I just love bright colors on my nails, so I am totally drawn to these. Sadly, Finger Paints is not available here. Colorwise, the green and the blue do remind me of China Glaze Cha Cha Cha and Blue Iguana though.

  6. Lovely swatches, and the gradient you created with them is perfect!

  7. Meghan, I also am not too fond of searingly bright colors on my nails, so I generally pass on neon collections in the summer. But, when you combined a few colors together in that gradient, they are all symbiotically better somehow! I also didn't know about the creative names of old from this brand. I just love it when polish colors, names, collections, etc. have been given extra thought and meaning, so I agree with you that it can be disappointing when they seem to just not care as much.
