Hi everyone! This post is completely seasonally inappropriate, but I bought the Essie Spring collection a few months ago with the intention of reviewing it on the blog. Then my dissertation hiatus came along and I had to put that on hold. Now I'm just getting around to posting stuff I did before my break, and I thought I'd pull out this collection. I find most Essie polishes to be so classic looking anyways that they tend to look great year round.

I never really got into this year's summer collection, and I'm still on the fence about the new fall collection, but the spring collection is one I really enjoyed. I like that you have both pale colours and darker colours, muted shades and brighter shades. Also they look really well together in nail art. You can see two different nail art looks I did with this collection
here and
here.
Formula and application: The formulas on these range from so-so to great, so I'll comment on each one separately. In a nutshell the paler colours tend to be more streaky, while the darker colours are really stellar.
Fashion Playground is a beautiful pale mint with a subtle shimmer. Formula was okay but tricky - it was patchy even after 3 coats.

Hide & Go Chic is a mid-value blue with subtle hints of teal - it's also a bit muted in colour. This was 3 coats and the formula was great, it goes on very smooth and glossy.

Romper Room is a pale pink creme. The formula was okay, but it's prone to streakiness and dragging. I used 3 coats but I felt like I needed more. It's a beautiful colour but the formula needs improvement.

Spin the Bottle is a pale tan with slight rosy hue. It goes on pretty smooth and needs 3 coats for full coverage.

Style Hunter is a bright raspberry creme. I love this shade and it's so juicy and pigmented - it has almost a jelly-like finish with the coverage of a creme. I used 3 coats but 2 would work.

Truth or Flare is a beautiful pale dusty blue. The formula was excellent and it goes on perfectly smooth and even. This was 3 coats without topcoat - it also dries very glossy.

Some of these shades are less than stellar in terms of the formula, but the colours overall are very nice, and they work really well together as a collection. There's also a few shades I can't live without, including Truth or Flare - these dusty blues get me all the time!
My picks: Truth or Flare, Hide & Go Chic, Style Hunter.
What did you think of this collection? Did you manage to pick anything up?
Nice swatches and review! There's some great colors in here.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you got to swatch this Spring Collection! All the colors are really pretty!
ReplyDeleteoh man, spin the bottle looks perfect with your skintone!
ReplyDeleteand i always feel a pang of sadness whenever there are pretty pastels in a collection because i cannot wear ANY pastels. they give me crazy lobster hands for some reason, regardless of the color family. :(
I like the last 2 the most, but the opacity issue discourages me a bit...
ReplyDeleteThese are absolutely lovely <3
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I don't have Style Hunter in my life! I love the look of it!
