China Glaze All Aboard Collection for Fall 2014: Part One, Loco-Motive

Hi everyone! I've got a review of the new China Glaze All Aboard collection for fall. Tonight I'm showing you the first half, while the second half, called All Aboard, will be posted tomorrow night (update: check out part two). I fell in love with the collection after seeing previews on several blogs after Cosmoprof, so when I found them at Sally Beauty Supply on Friday, I may have let out a squeal of delight.

The collection consists of twelve shades, mostly dark vampy cremes, some shimmers, and one glitter. The collection as a whole is inspired by train travel and many of the shades have a vintage feel to them. I also found the names in this collection to be particularly clever - China Glaze usually comes up with witty names for their polishes, but for some reason, I think they did a really good job with the play on words for some of these.

Formula and application: Some China Glaze collections have given me issues in the past (ahem City Flourish collection), however, the polishes in this collection are truly stellar. There was not one single polish that I had issues with. All of the cremes (yes ALL!) go on very smooth, are perfectly self-leveling, and provide full coverage in 1-2 coats (yes there's some one-coaters in this collection!). The shimmers also go on very smooth and evenly, but tend to be 2-3 coaters. The only issue I had is with some of the more subtle shimmers not showing up on the nails.

All Aboard is a dusty purple creme. It dries one shade darker than the bottle colour. This is a beautiful colour and perfect for fall. I used 2 coats here.

Choo-Choo Choose You is one of the more unique shades that I've seen China Glaze release in awhile. It's actually pretty hard to describe - it's described in the press releases as a purple/grey smokey shimmer, but it's much more than that. In the bottle it looks like a dusty purple with a green shimmer, but on the nail it looks more like a beige/grey with a copper, green, and gold shimmer. Also the colour changes a lot depending on the light. In some lights it looks like a dark taupe. It's truly stunning. The formula was also great and I used 3 coats here, but 2 would work.

Conduct Yourself is a dark, vampy oxblood red creme. It has a subtle shimmer that doesn't really show up on the nail. The only issue that I had with this is the difficult clean up - it wants to stain the cuticles, although I did not have any staining on my nails. I used 2 coats.

Don't Get Derailed is a deep olive green creme. I love the colour and I think it would look great in some nail art paired with All Aboard or some other cremes from the collection. It dries one shade darker than the bottle colour. I used 2 coats.

Lug Your Designer Baggage is a brown creme with golden-taupe flakes. It's pretty unique for China Glaze. The formula was great like the others, but the flakes cause a bit of unevenness in the application - not enough that it's a problem though. This was 2 coats.

What Are You A-Freight Of? is a deep brown/plum creme. Like some of the other cremes, it dries one shade darker than the bottle colour. I used 2 coats here, but it could easily be a one-coater.

Like I mentioned above, all have excellent formula and application. I'll give you my thoughts on the collection overall after I post part two!

What do you think of the China Glaze All Aboard collection so far? Are you enjoying the new fall collections popping up, or are you still loving the bright summer polishes?

Update: Part two of my review is now available. You can find that here.

    1. Haha, well I guess not everyone can like fall colours. If you like glitter check out the China Glaze Surprise or Pop Top collections.

  10. Wow, I am impressed. I really like your swatches, they are very realistic and give me a good idea what they will look like. Will be looking to get most of these I guess! Do you know when they will be available to most etailers/retailers? Thanks

    1. Thanks for the really nice comment! :) I don't have much information regarding when they'll be available. I bought these at Sally Beauty Supply, and I know Nail Polish Direct (http://www.nailpolishdirect.co.uk) already has them. But other sites are saying that they won't be available until September. My guess is that most places will have them by the end of the month.
