The Digit-al Dozen Does Countries and Cultures, Day Five: Talavera Pottery

Hi everyone! The end of Digit-al Dozen week always feels like a major achievement. Don't get me wrong, I love these weeks, but after two months away, I forgot how much of a challenge they are.

Talavera Pottery-inspired nail art

A few days ago when I did my Delftware-inspired nails, one reader, Lucy, commented that they reminded her of Talavera pottery from Puebla, Mexico. Intrigued, I had to look it up. While there are definitely some overlaps in Delftware and Talavera pottery, they are both very unique as well. I found some cute tile designs, and needing something simple, I thought they would be great for nail art. I hope you agree. :)

About this design:

The images come from a website specializing in Talavera tiles. What struck me about the designs was the simplicity. Also I like that the designs have a vintage look, I can imagine this on a dress from the '70s.

To get this look:

I painted the entire design freehand. After I painted my base, I did a coat of quick-dry top coat. That way, I could clean up my lines with a detail brush dipped in acetone (dab on a paper towel first).

  • Base: OPI My Vampire is Buff
  • Design: OPI Keeping Suzi At Bay, Essie Snap Happy
  • Brush: Edinburgh 3/4 from Stylish Nail Art Shop on Etsy
  • Top coats: KBShimmer Clearly On Top and Cult Nails Wax That

I really, really love the simplicity of this design - in case you haven't noticed! It's a reminder to me that nail art does not have to be complicated to be interesting. For me, this is a perfect look for a nice summer day.

What do you think of this? What's your favourite design from the Digit-al Dozen countries and cultures week?

    1. Thanks so much! It was really one of my favourite challenges in some time, and it came at a time when I was finishing with my dissertation - so win win! I agree the matte top coat works well here. It also makes it easier to photograph. :)
