The Digit-al Dozen Does Texture, Day Five: Freehand Lace Flowers

Hi everyone! This is my fifth and final design for Digit-al Dozen texture week. I don't know about you, but I felt this prompt was kind of a mixed bag for me - not the most inspiring of the prompts I've done with the group. However, I always have a feeling of satisfaction when I finish a Digit-al Dozen challenge week. This week is no different.

For my final design I decided to use my acrylics again and do some freehand lace with a floral design. Those paints are becoming addicting! Perhaps I could have easily done this with polish - I don't know. I love the look of the lace on the dusty blue background, it reminds me of Wedgwood pottery - which is something that I've been wanting to translate into nail art.

To get this look: I started with a base of Essie Truth or Flare from the Spring 2014 collection. The lace was done freehand with white acrylic paint. I find it easier to start with really light thin lines, then build them up. So for these nails I actually went over the lines three times. First, to lightly sketch out the design, then to paint in the image, then a third time to lighten and reinforce lines that I wanted to stand out.

The glitter is a soon to be released polish from Renaissance Cosmetics - my indie brand. It's a mix of satin white, iridescent, and gold glitter. It's so ethereal I'm in love with it! I can't wait to post swatches soon.

Everything was topped with quick dry top coat, then Cult Nails Wax That.

Overall, I feel the lace designs on my index and middle nails are stronger. I'm not too crazy about the design on my pinky - I feel it's a bit too busy and therefore not as successful. I thought about redoing that nail, but I'm way too busy. It reminds me of the saying - perfect is the enemy of the good. I can always do lace nails again in the future, but I don't want to let my group down by not posting my challenge manis.

What do you think of this? Do you find lace patterns to be a challenge?
