The Digit-al Dozen Does Texture, Day Four: Matte Velvet - Distressed and Fractured

Hi everyone! Yet again, I'm playing catch-up with my Digit-al Dozen posts. If you're interested, I hope to post my fifth and final mani this weekend.

Matte Velvet - Distressed and Fractured

For this design I wanted to play around with three Zoya Matte Velvet polishes I picked up awhile back.  Since mattes tend to be very opaque and dry fast, I thought they would be good for doing a distressed design. Turns out the Matte Velvets are not as matte or opaque as I thought they'd be. They definitely need 2 coats, and they dry to a satin-matte finish.

To add some interested, I decided to throw in some gold, and also do a fracture-like pattern. The point was not to make the fractured pattern precise, but to make it distressed and textured like the rest. I kind of like the finished look, but I feel like it's not "there" yet. I don't know why.

To get this look:

  • Base: Zoya Matte Velvet Dovima
  • Distressed look: Zoya Matte Velvet Dovima, Veruschka, Savita, and Orly Luxe
  • Fractured pattern: Orly Luxe
  • Small round gold studs

What do you think of this? Have you tried the Zoya Matte Velvets?
