The Digit-al Dozen Does Brands, Day One: Pretty Little Bottles

Hi everyone! It's another Digit-al Dozen week. This time we are taking on brands, which I think we're allowed to interpret rather loosely. Unlike last month's challenge where I had four manis done at the beginning of the week, this time I only have one - the one I'm showing you today. I'm at such a loss for what to do, but I'm hoping some inspiration will strike me...ASAP!

Pretty Little Bottles with China Glaze City Flourish

About this design: I decided to take on nail polish brands in this design. I really only had two goals: paint little bottles of polish, and use the new China Glaze City Flourish collection. So I think I succeeded on both fronts! But more seriously, I'm not sure how I feel about these. Don't get me wrong - they are cute, but I tend to like my nail art when it has an artistic look. To me this looks more cartoonish. However, I'm trying to move past this biased thinking.

To get this look: I started with a white base, then I used several light-coloured polishes to do a watercolour background. I painted the outlines for the bottles in black polish, filled them in with white, then went over that with colour. The last steps were to paint the black caps and the white highlights.

As I mentioned, all colours are from the China Glaze City Flourish collection. Here's the list of what I used:

Black: Cult Nails Fetish
White: Cult Nails Tempest

Background:
China Glaze At Vase Value
China Glaze Spring in My Step
China Glaze Don't Honk Your Thorn
China Glaze In A Lily Bit

Bottles:
China Glaze Grass is Lime Greener
China Glaze Metro Pollen-tin
China Glaze What a Pansy
China Glaze Petal to the Metal

What do you think of this design? How would you take on the theme of brands?

  1. These are really cute :) I love that added touch of the watercolor background as well.

I'm the same way with my nail art. I want it to look like art and not just like I stuck some random stuff on it and it can be hard to find the balance. But it's fun sometimes to just go completely out of your normal art zone.

I'm a slow guesser... what brand bottle is drawn on your littlefinger? the other three are very recognisable :)

    1. That's supposed to be the standard indie round bottle - the one most of the indie brands use - same kind you get with Seche Vite. :) And I'm glad you got the others!

  11. These are flawless! I absolutely love them!! I think they walk the line between cartoonish and artistic because of the painterly details; regardless I want them on *my* nails desperately :D
