Essie Resort 2014 Collection "Resort Fling": Swatches and Review!

Hi everyone! As promised I have the Essie Resort 2014 collection. Last year I passed on the Resort collection when it came out (although I eventually bought them as minis), but this year I decided to splurge for them. I have some mixed thoughts, like any collection, but overall I'm happy with this purchase.

Keep reading for my thoughts on each polish and the collection as a whole.

When compared to last year's collection they are more muted and subdued, which I think is very on trend with all of the nudes we've been seeing lately. Separately I don't know if I would go for these polishes, but as a collection they have a strange appeal. They definitely do recall a spring getaway or a vacation at a seaside resort...just not a cold seaside *brrrr*.

I found the formula on these varied, so I'll discuss the formula separately for each polish.

Cocktails & Coconuts is a nice light nude, slightly tan in colour. There's a very subtle silver shimmer with occasional tiny flakes, but you really only notice it when you look up close. The formula on this one was very good, and it went on evenly with no issues. This was 3 coats.

Find Me An Oasis is a very, very light blue - almost white. I've never been able to decide whether or not I like colours like this. It's so light it makes me look very tan, which is something I find very odd. But I think it will make a great colour for nail art and as a base for glitter toppers. Formula-wise it was a bit thin and I had some slight pooling in the cuticles. Also I had to wait a bit in between coats to prevent it from dragging. This was 3 coats.

Resort Fling is a soft, sheer peach. I don't mind the colour but I wish the formula was less sheer. At three coats I still had some VNL and some visible streaks. I don't mind if this was intended to be a jelly - but in that case I wouldn't want to see any streaks or uneveness. This was 3 coats.

Under The Twilight is a dark muted blurple creme. Maybe not the most unique colour, but I like polishes like this for nail art and as bases for glitter toppers. I had absolutely no issues with the formula, it went on so smooth and flawlessly! This was 2 coats.

Overall: I really think it's a nice little collection. Yes, you may already have some dupes of these in your collection, but I it's a unique pairing of colours. I would have preferred if Resort Fling was a creme, maybe with a subtle shimmer like Cocktails & Coconuts, or some of the polishes from last year's summer collection.

What do you think of this collection? Would you like to see any comparisons?

  1. I have Oasis and I love it. I'm dark enough that the blue really pops on me, doesn't look white at all :)
