China Glaze City Flourish Collection: Part One, Peonies & Park Ave.

Hi everyone! I hope you're not tired of the new China Glaze City Flourish collection. I bought these a few weeks ago from Nail Polish Canada, and I've been itching to swatch them. Also there's been some mixed opinions on the collection so I wanted to offer my thoughts if you're still on the fence.

I think I'll leave my thoughts regarding the collection as a whole until my second post. For now, I want to show you these first six.

Note: Some of these colours are very hard to photograph, especially the neons. I've made every attempt to adjust the colours as accurately as possible, but there may be some slight discrepancies on one or two. If colour accuracy is very important to you, make sure to check out a few blog reviews and swatches before buying.

Formula and application: I had similar issues with all of these, so I'll cover that here. I had to use three coats for almost all my swatches, and I found these polishes to be trickier than I'm used to. They are prone to dragging - that's when you paint a coat of polish only to have the coat underneath come off - and therefore can look very patchy. I found the best way to apply was to do two thin coats, then a generous third coat. I also found that if I used too many brushstrokes I would in most cases experience dragging, so as few strokes as possible is key to these polishes.

At Vase Value is a lovely bright robin's egg blue, leaning slightly towards a mint colour. I found the formula was slightly better than some of the other light pastels, but still tricky. 3 coats.

In A Lily Bit is a light lavender pastel. The formula on this one was pretty good. There was some slight unevenness but I was able to cover it easily. 3 coats.

Lotus Begin is another lavender creme - one shade darker than In A Lily Bit, but very similar in colour. This one has a great formula, not like some of the other cremes. I used 3 coats but 2 would work.

Peonies & Park Ave. is a bright neon hot pink - a very fun and girly colour. I also had issues with this one - mainly dragging - although, I was able to make it look good. 3 coats.

Petal to the Metal is a hard colour to describe. It looks like both a pastel and a neon - pink with coral tones. The colour is very bright, and the formula was excellent - easy to apply and no issues to report. This was 3 coats although 2 might work here.

Spring In My Step is a pastel pink with subtle peachy tones. Of the six polishes here, this one I found had the most difficult formula. Maybe it's because I swatched it first, but you can see that there's some unevenness with the application. Very sad because it's a pretty colour. 3 coats.

Okay, I'm nodding off, so I'll end it there. I'll post the second half of the collection next week with my thoughts on them.

In the meantime - what do you think of this collection? Are there any comparisons you'd like to see?

  1. There pretty colors but sad to hear that formula wasn't the best. Still looking forward to seeing the rest of the colors swatched though.

    1. Thanks! And I can do that comparison - I'll probably do a separate post next week. :)

  3. I really like the Peonies & Park Ave as well as Petal to the Metal... but I feel like I could easily find some dupes in my own stash if I tried hard enough :S

  4. Totally agree with you on the formula. They are super tricky to deal with. But some of the colours are so special that, to me, they are worth the hazzle :)

  5. I'm not surprised you had issue with some of these, neons can sometimes be tricky to apply. Having said that there are some really pretty colors here that I would be willing to try - particularly Petal To The Medal and Spring In My Step. Overall not groundbreaking for CG- they have tons of similar colors and I own quite a few of them, but still a pretty Spring collection.

  7. Could you possibly compare Sweet Hook to both lilac polishes in this collection? Also, could you compare In A Lily Bit to OPI Mod About You? Even a verbal comparison will be appreciated if you can't take the time to swatch :)

    Thank you! (gorgeous nails)
