Some of these comparisons are about discovering whether two similar polishes are "dupes." But in other comparisons I've done simply that - put 2-4 polishes together that are in the same colour family, to see how they look side-by-side.
Comparison #1:
Sally Hansen (Insta-dry) Slick Slate, 2 coats
Zoya Normani, 3 coats
China Glaze Below Deck, 3 coats
OPI You Don't Know Jacques!, 3 coats
The OPI is obviously darker, while the China Glaze is a touch lighter and more mauve. The Sally Hansen is the same value as the Zoya but more grey in tone.
Comparison #2:
Essence Cafe Ole, 3 coats
Zoya Taylor, 3 coats
Essie Sand Tropez, 3 coats
OPI Did You Ear About Van Gogh?, 4 coats
Essence Cafe Ole, 3 coats
Zoya Taylor, 3 coats
Essie Sand Tropez, 3 coats
OPI Did You Ear About Van Gogh?, 4 coats
The Zoya is more yellow/cream in tone than the other nudes. Cafe Ole is the darkest and has a very subtle shimmer which the others don't have. The OPI and Essie are very close, although the OPI has a poor formula (too streaky and thin).
Comparison #3:
OPI My Very First Knockwurst, 3 coats
Zoya Rue, 3 coats
Models Own Utopia, 3 coats
Zoya Rue, 3 coats
OPI My Very First Knockwurst, 3 coats
Zoya Rue, 3 coats
Models Own Utopia, 3 coats
Zoya Rue, 3 coats
All three polishes are light muted rose colours. The Models Own is much lighter but also has cooler undertones. The OPI is in the middle of the three (value-wise).
Comparison #4:
Essence Cotton Candy, 3 coats
Zoya Chantal, 3 coats
OPI My Vampire is Buff, 3 coats
Lime Crime Milky Ways, 3 coats
Essence Cotton Candy, 3 coats
Zoya Chantal, 3 coats
OPI My Vampire is Buff, 3 coats
Lime Crime Milky Ways, 3 coats
These are all light creams/off-whites. The Essence and Zoya seem to be close in the bottle, but the Essence is a sheer not a creme. The Zoya is the darkest, and more of a light tan, while the OPI is a very, very light beige, and the Lime Crime is more of a slightly yellow-toned off-white cream.
Comparison #5:
Zoya Brigitte, 3 coats
Models Own Nude Beige, 3 coats
Ulta Freshwater Pearl, 3 coats
Zoya Brigitte, 3 coats
Zoya Brigitte, 3 coats
Models Own Nude Beige, 3 coats
Ulta Freshwater Pearl, 3 coats
Zoya Brigitte, 3 coats
While there's obvious differences between these, in the bottle they are relatively the same value. The Models Own is more of a brownish taupe, while the Zoya is more mauve. In the bottle, the Ulta looks similar in value, but on the nail it is much lighter - the shimmer is an obvious difference.
Comparison #6:
Essence Walk of Fame, 2 coats
Zoya Normani, 3 coats
Essie Chinchilly, 4 coats
Ulta Taupe on a Rope, 3 coats
Essence Walk of Fame, 2 coats
Zoya Normani, 3 coats
Essie Chinchilly, 4 coats
Ulta Taupe on a Rope, 3 coats
The Ulta has a subtle gold shimmer and is more of a brown with olive green undertones. Chinchilly is lighter and more sheer. While the Essence is more grey-ish but is very similar to the Zoya.

Comparison #7:
Zoya Taylor, 3 coats
Zoya Chantal, 3 coats
Zoya Taylor, 3 coats
Zoya Chantal, 3 coats
In the bottle these two from the Naturel collection look almost identical, but less so on the nails. Yet there are still very similar.
Comparison #7 |
Comparison #8:
Sally Hansen (Xtreme Wear) Grey Area, 3 coats
Zoya Odette, 3 coats
Sally Hansen Grey Area, 3 coats
Zoya Odette, 3 coats
The Sally Hansen is clearly darker than the Zoya, but in a bottle comparison, I thought these two polishes were both grey-ish mauves. But Grey Area is actually more of a cool, slate grey, while Odette is definitely a mauve shade.
Comparison #8 |
Comparison #9:
Essence Iced Strawberry Cream, 3 coats
Ulta Freshwater Pearl, 3 coats
Essence Iced Strawberry Cream, 3 coats
Ulta Freshwater Pearl, 3 coats
Both of these polishes are shimmery peach colours, but the Ulta is more rose in colour, while the Essence is peach and more sheer. They are very close though.
Comparison #9 |
Overall: In pulling out almost every nude polish I own, I confirmed my suspicion that the polishes from the Naturel collection are fairly unique. It's true I might be missing that one polish that happens to be a dupe, but I'll take that risk. The only exception is Normani, and it seems that there are plenty of similar polishes out there.
What do you think of the Naturel collection? Do you find these colours unique?
Aah! This is so much help I can't even tell you! Now I can tell exactly which ones to put on my list. Thank you, Meghan! ^_^
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear this, and you're welcome! After I hit the 'publish' button, I was really worried that no one would be interested in the post. :/
DeleteGreat comparison post! Its was nice to see :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa! :)
DeleteThank you for this! You're awesome :)
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome and thanks for checking it out! :)
DeleteWhen I started reading, I was wishing you had added Essie Chinchilly to the Normani comparison. And I see that you did! Thanks for the helpful comparisons.
ReplyDeleteGood think I own that Essie! Yay! Happy to hear that you found this helpful! :)

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, but please don't drop links as I've asked you before.
DeleteGreat post- it confirms my love for polishes I already own and I have added a few more to my wish list!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you found the post helpful! :)
DeleteThese comparisons are fantastic! I already bought Rue, which I love, but it reminds me of another polish I owned years ago. With all the colors and brands available right now I wouldn't call the colors exactly unique, but they are fresh looking to me.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I'm happy to hear that you found it helpful! I'm sure there are polishes out there that are close to these colours that I haven't included, but I can't own them all! And I agree that they look fresh looking to me as well. :)
DeleteGreat comparison idea! This is so helpful to see if I already have any polishes similar to the ones in Zoya's new collection! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope this helps your purchasing choices! :)
DeleteFantastic post! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWow really excellent post! I looooove comparison posts SO much!!
ReplyDeleteZoya Chantel is soooo pretty! Nudes are one of my favorite 'polish families' so I don't think you could ever have too many nude shades! (It's like pink polishes haha. ;)) I think Zoya did a great job with this Naturel Collection ever though some shades are similar. But I mean I try my best not to buy dupes so it works out in the long run. xD I'll just sit and drool at these swatches. ;)
ReplyDeletelove this post Meghan - great work :) thank you, makes it easy :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic post, thank you!
ReplyDeleteSearched for a comparison between Chantal, Taylor and Sand Tropez and found your beautiful post. It is so helpful to see these shades swatched & photographed by the same person at the same time, and you even included OPI's "Vampire"! Thank you very much, you saved me $$ :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Can you please, please, please add the new Zoya Naturel Deux collection swatches to this set in some form - like take a subset of comparison colours to re-swatch to give an idea where the Deux set stands?
ReplyDeleteHi Monika - I have considered it, but it depends on my finances. I don't receive press samples from Zoya so it comes out of pocket. The collection isn't available here, but I'll think about reviewing it on the blog when it arrives, and if I do, I'll definitely add it to the comparisons. :)
