The Digit-al Dozen Does Vintage: Nifty Fifties

Hi everyone! This week marks another challenge week for The Digit-al Dozen. In spite of all the work that goes into these posts, I do really look forward to these challenge weeks. I never know what I'm going to come up with until I sit down and start to work on each design.

For this week, I've really tried to avoid doing five days of flowers, and today's design was a success (in my books at least).

About this design: Today's design comes from a book I picked up awhile back of fabric patterns from the fifties in the collection of the V&A. You can see a black and white image on the V&A website. I think the book cost me $5 and it was a smart little purchase - I've gotten so much inspiration from it, not just with this design but with previous ones as well. I generally kept the colours and design like the original. I didn't want to tweak it too much, mainly out of fear that it wouldn't look vintage anymore.

To get this look: I used OPI My Vampire is Buff, OPI My Paprika is Hotter than Yours!, and China Glaze Sea Spray. I also used Cult Nails Tempest and Fetish. Everything was done freehand, and for the blocks of colour, I painted them with Tempest to begin with, then went over them with the colour.

Overall: I really love how spunky and fun this is! It's not too often I use orange, but I love the colour combination with the blue-orange complements, and the nice buff nude to balance. I'm also really happy with my line work on this one.

What do you think of this design? What would you do for a vintage-themed challenge?
