The Digit-al Dozen Does Monochrome: Purple Pattern

Hi everyone! I have my second nail art design for this week's Digit-al Dozen challenge. When I set out to do my manis, of course I first went for the blue polish. But once that was out of the way, I set my sights on my next favourite colour...purple!

I had two goals with this design, practice some abstract patterning, and use one of my untried Lynnderellas. I think I succeeded with both. ;)

About this design: When I decided I wanted to do some abstract design, I went for something familiar. I've done this not-quite-square/rectangle design one or two times before - you can see it in my review of Lumina Lacquer, but this time I was trying to make it work with the monochrome theme, so I wanted to stick to shades of purple and off-white.

I also got a chance to use one of my Lynnderella polishes that I recently purchased. Heart of Stone is from the most recent Halloween collection - Haunted Hearts. It has a shimmery blue-violet duochrome sheer base with iridescent and holo glitter and shards. It's absolutely amazing. It's meant to be layered over another polish, and while I've seen this over lighter colours, it really sings when it's layered over a dark polish. Application was perfect although you may find one or two of the shards wants to stick up. I just use an old cuticle stick to put them in place.

To get this look: On my pinky, index and thumb, I layered two coats of Lynnderella Heart of Stone over OPI Vant to Bite My Neck? My ring and middle finger I started with a base of OPI My Vampire is Buff. I then painted the squares with a detail brush and American Apparel L'Esprit (a lavender creme), outlined with Vant to Bite My Neck? and then filled in with My Vampire is Buff.

Overall: For me, the Lynnderella is what makes this mani work. If you ever have the chance to splurge on these polishes, I would definitely recommend Heart of Stone, it is absolutely amazing - it has one of those shimmers that you can't stop staring at. The abstract pattern is nice and to me it looks cleaner than my previous attempts - maybe my painting skills are improving?! A girl can hope...

What do you think of this design? Do you own this particular Lynnderella?

  4. I'm actually not the hugest fan of Lynns (or big glitter in general), but it looks nice here, paired with your little TV sets (as I like to call this design)! I think your lines are fabulously neat.

    1. TV sets, LOL!! I love it! And too bad you don't like big glitter, only because that leaves so little indie polish that you could potentially enjoy. Although more makers are going against the big glitter trend.

  7. This is spectacular! I agree that the squares look retro, and I love that. Also, I need Heart of Stone! I had Opal Intuition before and gifted it because I decided I'd rather have this one. Then I never got around to getting it. Oops!
