The Digit-al Dozen Does Monochrome: Mix n' Match Magenta

Hi everyone! A bit late I know, but here's my fifth and final nail art for The Digit-al Dozen monochrome week. I know I've only participated in three challenge weeks, but this is by far my favourite. I'm really happy with what I came up with, and I want to keep up the momentum until next month's challenge.

Mix n' Match Magenta

About this design: This design really has a Valentine's Day look with the hearts, and I suppose that wasn't purely accidental. I've realized that once you become an indie maker you start thinking about the holidays a lot sooner than others. In fact my sister and I are working on getting our Valentine's Day polishes this coming up week!

Mix n' Match Magenta

When I set out to do this mani, I just wanted to do something a bit easier but also try something new (the hearts with gradient background). I deviated a bit from the monochromatic with the silver glitter and holo polish, but I think they really work well with the whole design.

Mix n' Match Magenta

To get this look: I started with a base of Essie Plumberry on my pinky, then did a gradient with Color Club Beyond. It didn't turn out as smooth (gradient-wise) as I had hoped but I like the look. My ring finger is Plumberry topped with China Glaze Glitz n' Pieces.

On my middle finger I started with Cult Nails Tempest, then I did a gradient with Tempest and Cult Nails Fetish. I painted the hearts with Fetish and a fine liner brush, then filled them in with Plumberry. I also thought a nice black border would work on this, and I like how that turned out. My index finger is Beyond, with a stud I got from The Nailasaurus Emporium.

Mix n' Match Magenta

Overall: Despite a few hiccups (the gradient for one), I really love how this turned out. I think it would be great for Valentine's Day, so I'll probably revisit the hearts on strings look. Get it...heartstrings!? Lol!

So what do you think of this? What is your favourite design of mine from this week's challenge?

  11. Wow - you did five amazing DD designs this month! There is no way to pick a favorite. I love the freedom in the sprouts, the vintage in the blue valentine, the simplicity of the heart-string skittle (although your heart-strings look difficult to paint), the geometric spacing of the purple shapes, and the calming sepia stripes. Beautiful!!
