The Digit-al Dozen Does Monochrome + GOT Polish Challenge: Sepia Stripes

Hi everyone! As promised this is my second post for tonight. One of the tricky things about participating in multiple challenges is that they sometimes overlap! So I am doing double duty with this post. As you may remember, I'm also trying my best to participate in the GOT Polish Challenge hosted by the Crumpet Nail Tarts. This week's theme is stripes, so it only made sense to do monochromatic stripes!

Sepia Stripes

The GOT (Golden Oldies Thursday) Polish Challenge is all about wearing your older once loved, but now forgotten polishes. This design features one of the first polishes that I bought when I started collecting - OPI You Don't Know Jacques!

I meant to do swatches of this polish, but I just ran out of time! So what can I say about You Don't Know Jacques!? Well for starters, it's one of those classic, must-have shades. I find myself using it a lot for nail art when I need a brown. And on its own, it's very classy and sophisticated. I didn't think I would love brown polish until I got this, and it was love at first polish!

Sepia Stripes

You Don't Know Jacques! is a brown taupe originally from the OPI France collection. This is another polish that I swatched when I first started my Tumblr over a year ago. If you are interested, you can find my very amateurish swatch here.

Sepia Stripes

About this design: For the GOT Polish Challenge I had to do stripes, but I decided to make it more interesting for myself by adding detail and variation with dotted and zigzag lines. Also some of the lines are made with square patterns. I wanted the stripes to be intricate looking. For some of them, I dragged my liner brush very, very lightly so there was only the faintest of line. I love the contrast with the more solid lines.

Sepia Stripes

To get this look: I started with a base of OPI My Vampire is Buff. The stripes were painted with a fine liner brush and You Don't Know Jacques!, Cult Nails Fetish, and OPI Ski Slope Bunny. The lighter browns were a mix of You Don't Know Jacques! and My Vampire is Buff. I used my teeniest dotting tool for the dotted lines. After a quick dry top coat, I used Cult Nails Wax That for the matte effect.

Overall: I love the look of these stripes, for me, they are more classy and sophisticated than you normally get with stripes. I actually found that it took a fair amount of time to do this design - for one, I wanted to make sure to get straight lines, and also, I wanted there to be a good amount of variation. So I had to constantly plan in my mind as I went along. But it was definitely worth it, these are by far my favourite stripes that I have done to date!

What do you think of these? Do you own this classic brown?
