Polished by Alexandra, Winter 2013: Holiday Traditions

Hi everyone! I have the latest collection from Polished by Alexandra for you tonight. If you haven't seen my previous posts about this brand, you should know that Alexandra started selling soaps and other bath and body products through her shop Soaps by Alexandra, opened in 2011. Earlier this year she moved into making indie polishes, also sold out of the same shop. And she's a professional classical opera singer!

This is my third collection I've reviewed from this brand, and I'm happy to see the development in Alex's work. While the summer collection contained some bright cremes and sheers, and the fall collection had rich shimmers, this collection offers you some classic crellies, and shimmery duo/multichrome polishes.

Blue Christmas is a turquoise blue that has a subtle blue-violet duochrome effect. The violet can be shy but it's definitely visible when in direct light! Would it surprise you to hear that I'm totally in love with this one!? The formula was excellent and it went on very smooth and was completely self-leveling. I used three coats here but two would also work.

Festival of Lights is a white crelly with a mix of mint and periwinkle circle and hex glitter. I really enjoy the colours of  this polish, and I always love white-based crellies! The formula was a bit thick so it's good to wait a few minutes between coats. The advantage is that it has great coverage for a white crelly and there's no worry about it being sheer. This was three coats.

Jolly Old Saint Nick is a white crelly with red, green, and gold glitter. If you are in the mood for a more traditional, holiday polish, this is a good choice. The formula on this one was identical to Festival of Lights - a bit thick but still very manageable. This was also three coats but two would work.

Mistletoe Kisses is a gorgeous garnet red that has a multichrome effect that shifts from red to golden-copper to a golden-green (which was more apparent in person than these photos). It's quite stunning and another favourite of mine! The formula on this was excellent, it went on so smooth and evenly. It could easily be one coat but I used two here.

Sparklers & Champagne is a clear-based glitter topper with gold and iridescent hexes. I find that a lot of gold glitter toppers can be busy, while this one has a simplicity to it. So if you are tired of very busy, chunky glitter polishes, this would be a refreshing change. It applies perfectly and I had no issues with the glitter. It also has good glitter payoff. This is one coat over Mistletoe Kisses.

All five polishes are great, but my favourites are definitely Blue Christmas and Mistletoe Kisses. And I appreciate that they are not dupes for all the multichromes that we've been seeing lately.

This collection is available now at Polished by Alexandra's Etsy shop (pick up a cuticle balm while you're there, they are awesome!). And you can get a bit of a discount by buying the whole collection. You can also follow Polished by Alexandra on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for updates.

Any of these polishes calling out to you? If so, which ones? Have you picked up any holiday polishes this season?
