Four Weeks of piCture pOlish + The Digit-al Dozen Does Red, Gold, and Green

Hi everyone! Along with falling behind on my posts for the Digit-al Dozen this week, I also fell behind on my piCture pOlish posts. I tend to dislike publishing posts that serve a dual purpose, for some reason it feels like cheating for me. However, the ladies at piCture pOlish sent me the gorgeous red O'Hara, and it was perfect for this week's Digit-al Dozen challenge.

So this week's piCture pOlish post features the O'Hara in a holly design inspired by one of my favourite nail artists Lindsey at Wondrously Polished.

About this design: Earlier this week, Lindsey posted a scribbly holly design for the Digit-al Dozen red, gold, and green challenge. I loved the graphic quality of her design. I feel like mine didn't turn out as spontaneous looking as Lindsey's, but I'm still pretty happy with the final results.

To get this look: I started with a base of OPI My Vampire is Buff (of course), and then I sketched out the holly design very lightly in black polish thinned with nail polish thinner. I then filled in the holly design with piCture pOlish O'Hara for the berries, and Renaissance Custom Lacquer Mount Pleasant for the leaves. After the fact, I realized that piCture pOlish Kryptonite might have been a better choice for the leaves, but I just used what was on my table. ;)

I went over my lines with black polish, then finished with a thin wash of Orly Luxe in the space around the holly.

About O'Hara: This is a gorgeous red jelly with an iridescent pink/silver glass fleck shimmer. It's so stunning - the colour is very rich and glossy, the shimmer is very pretty and eye catching, and it's just such a perfect shade of red! The formula was excellent and I used three coats for the swatches you see here. Some might be able to get away with two coats.

  2. O'Hara is beautiful, and I think your sketched holly berries came out wonderfully. The linework is nicely loose. :)

    1. I agree with you on the hint of shimmer in O'Hara, it wouldn't be as fun if it was just a plain jelly, IMO. :)
