About this design: For so long now I've been wanting to do Art Nouveau nail art. I really love everything about the style, especially the flowing, decorative lines and the incorporation of images from nature (flowers, leaves, vines, etc.). What a lot of people don't know is that it was a reaction against the industrialization and modernization of the period, and I think it's really cool how that informed the aesthetics of the period.

I took my inspiration from a lot of different images that I found online while searching for Art Nouveau patterns and designs. But I didn't really follow any one specific image. I know I wanted to do roses so I added those to to each nail.

To get this look: I started with a base of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. All the designs were done with black polish (Sally Hansen Black Out), thinned with either thinner or acetone. The hardest part was just deciding what I wanted my lines to look like. I'm not very good at improvising, so I had to have a clear idea before I started painting what I wanted the design to look like.

As I said earlier I have mixed feelings about this design. There's nothing wrong with it, but I feel like it's just not there yet. Do you ever have that feeling? But I know that this is a good start for something better. I want to do Art Nouveau-inspired nail art again, so I'll have to put my thinking cap on and try to figure out how I can come up with a design that takes my favourite aspects of this design, but improves on it.
What do you think of this? Do you like Art Nouveau design?

I love the most that these look like you sketched them. IN POLISH. shut up and applaud yourself xx :)
ReplyDeleteI particularly love the ring- and middlefinger. Just awesome!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic. I love the sketched look and the way it's so artsy. I guess you could add a pop of pink to the roses or maybe some sparkle somewhere to extend your mani. I do love it as it is though.
ReplyDeleteYou got the swoopy beautiful lines perfectly. I think doing this in a brown-toned palette might help warm it up and get it closer to where you're wanting it to be, but I really do adore it as it is. Each nail is interesting and beautiful. :)
ReplyDeletethis is SOOOO unique and original...i LOVE the detailed little curled borders and small touches you added to really make this art deco!
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about art but I do think these look fantastic, like the other gals have said, like a sketch. So unique and cool!
ReplyDeletethese look great!
ReplyDeleteI think these look great! And like nothing I've really seen in nail art before... I love how the lines are blurred and blended a little. I'm also terrible at improvising, so I know exactly how you feel about that!
ReplyDeleteThis is really gorgeous! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWOWZA this is amazing! Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI can not even fathom not being ridiculously thrilled with these--they really are just stunning! Beautiful lines, such a wonderful thinned/wash effect... Seriously, if I'd managed to commit nail art on this level, I would be walking up to strangers in the street and shoving my hands in their faces all, "LOOK AT WHAT I MADE!!!"
