Salvatore Ferragamo-Inspired Flowers

Hi everyone! Tonight's post is a little bit different. I was contacted by Destiny USA, a shopping mall in Syracuse, NY and was asked if I would be interested in creating a post on the topic of Italian fashion.

For me, when it comes to fashion I prefer styles and pieces that are classic and can withstand seasonal trends. For example, a jacket or a dress that has a timeless cut but can be accessorized with jewelry or a nice scarf. Maybe it's the budget conscious in me, but I find it difficult to buy clothes that will be out of style in a year.

So that's why, when searching for inspiration for this post, I was drawn to a scarf I found by Salvatore Ferragamo as part of their Fall-Winter collection. It's a classic piece that will stay in style for quite some time, and can be used to accent a plain jacket or sweater. But there's something about the print that makes it stand out - the design looks almost historical, like it came out of an Italian Renaissance painting or drawing.

To get this look: I started with a black base (Sally Hansen Black Out) and blocked in the flowers and foliage with white polish (Sally Hansen White On). I then filled out the design with more white polish along with some grey (Girly Bits Elephant Shoe) and nude (Essie Sand Tropez). Everything was painted freehand with a detail brush.

I love how the final look turned out, and I think it looks classic like the original inspiration. Lately the connections between fashion and nail art have intrigued me. It makes me think about my own style, as well as how the nail art I wear communicates a particular style or sense of fashion.

What do you think of this design? How would you describe your tastes in fashion? And do you find yourself inspired by fashion trends when it comes to nail art?

  8. Love the nail art, really gorgeous! I'm usually not big on many fads. Mostly because I usually don't care for them, but I would agree...I'd prefer something that will last. And who can ever go wrong with a classic B&W? :)
