This is actually one of those challenges I've been looking forward to for awhile. I'm not too big on the supernatural, but over the summer I devoured all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer - my first time watching the show. Even though the show is over ten years old, and some of the special effects are a bit dated, it's still pretty awesome. It's one of those shows where I felt lost and sad once I had finished all the episodes.

About this design: This design is based on the character of Dark Willow - Willow is one of the main characters and becomes increasingly involved with witchcraft over the course of the series. At the end of season six her girlfriend is killed and she becomes uber-evil witch as she goes on a rampage of revenge and total annihilation of the world.

The design is based on two things. First, the scene where she becomes Dark Willow by taking a bunch of black magic books and literally drawing the text from the books, the words soak into her skin and crawl up her body. The second is Dark Willow's face as she becomes more evil, with her very pale complexion and black veins.

To get this look: The whole design was done with just black and white polish - Orly Liquid Vinyl and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls to be exact. I started with a base of MBSW and then when that was dry used a makeup sponge to add black and white until I had a grainy background. I used black polish and nail polish thinner to do the borders - just make sure you have very little polish on the brush and work slowly building it up to get that faded effect. The rest, veins and text, were done freehand with a fine nail art brush. A matte top coat was added at the very end.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this design. If I were to redo it, perhaps a bit more contrast to make some parts stand out more. Otherwise, I think it's a great idea for a Halloween design.
What do you think of this? Any Buffy fans out there?

I sooo envy you about watching Buffy for the first time! I'm a devoted fan of that show and have watched each season many many times, in fact I did for this challenge a nail art based in the episode Hush, one of my favorites http://naileverything.blogspot.mx/2013/10/31dc2013-day-29-supernatural-dia-29-lo.html
ReplyDeleteYours are great, Dark Willow was such a badass!
Hush is such an awesome episode, I still remember those creepies floating through Sunnydale. :) Willow is just such an awesome character period. I also loved Vamp Willow, it's just harder to depict in nail art.
DeleteAw, man, I LOVE this! What a great idea! They look amazing, and they take me right back to watching Willow suck the magic right out of the pages. Love, love, LOVE!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Elizabeth! That was such a great scene - I kinda wish I could do something like that, it would sure make studying easier, LOL! ;)

ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! You should definitely watch it again!! I'm thinking I'll start watching Angel soon but I'm worried that it won't be the same without Buffy. :(
DeleteOh - you most definitely should watch Angel. Joss Whedon is a TV/Movie/Writing genius! Your nails are a perfect tribute and are amazing! Love, love, love them.
ReplyDeleteWell, okay, I guess you convinced me, I'll definitely watch Angel! Not that you had to twist my arm or anything. ;) And thanks for the nice comment! :)
