31 Day Challenge: Day Seventeen, Glitter: Lumina Lacquer Dreamcatcher

Hi everyone! Make sure you check out my giveaway that I posted earlier today. And I'm glad to see that so many people have already entered.

For tonight's prompt I wracked my brain on what to do up until the last minute. I went back and forth on whether to do something easy, like a glitter gradient or a simple layering of glitter polish, or something more challenging. Then suddenly it came to me. I've actually had this idea in mind for some time now, but thought it was going to be too difficult. In the end it was much easier than I thought, and I'm happy with the end result.

Lumina Lacquer Dreamcatcher

When it comes to nail art, the image of the dreamcatcher can be quite a cliche. But then again, what isn't? Tatiana, the creator of Lumina Lacquer, described this polish as being for her partner, who is part Native American. So the image of the dreamcatcher seemed quite appropriate here.

Dreamcatcher nail art

Dreamcatcher (the polish) is a clear-based glitter bomb loaded with metallic and holographic glitter in a variety of colours and shapes - hexes, circles, hearts, stars, moons, and bars. There's also a good helping of matte white glitter in stars, bars, hexes and circles. I'd say the colours are predominantly blue, fuchsia and silver, but it's one of those polishes that's very hard to describe.

I used one coat plus touch ups here, and the formula was great - no issues getting out the larger glitter, and I had the perfect balance of enough glitter, but not too much.

As for the rest of the manicure, the base is OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. The dreamcatcher was painted freehand with China Glaze Charmed, I'm Sure, Queen B, Gossip Over Gimlets, and OPI Can't Find My Czechbook. The dreamcatcher was surprisingly easy to paint and I love how the feathers look kinda wispy.

I love it when a polish (in this case Lumina Lacquer Dreamcatcher) and a nail art idea come together. And adding an accent nail with nail art is a great way to wear an indie polish.

What do you think of this? Does the name of a polish ever inspire you when it comes to nail art?

    1. Thanks so much Shelby! By cliche I mean it's been done a lot. Nothing wrong with that, I guess it just means you have to work to try to make it your own. Sounds like maybe I succeeded in that respect. ;)

    1. Thanks Mireia! For the feathers, I thin my nail polish down and then work in layers. I started with the dark purple and painted it on really thin and streaky (to give it that wispy look), then added some touches of dark blue, then finally lighter blue. Maybe I should do a tutorial on that!

  11. WOW, Lumina Lacquer Dreamcatcher is a beautiful mix of glitters! And this Dreamcatcher nail art you did with it is totally stunning and gorgeous! I love how you have captured the essence of watercolour look on your nails with nail polishes! Did you thin them with nail polish remover or nail polish thinner?

    1. Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the polish and the design. When it comes to thinning my nail polish to do a watercolour effect, I always use nail polish thinner.
