Hi everyone! I have the first part of the Rainbow Honey Summer of 199X collection. When I first saw the promotional images for this collection, I was immediately taken by the fun and bright colours, so I knew I had to share this on the blog! I had hoped to have swatches sooner, but unfortunately with the heat, swatching has been uncomfortable, and I struggled so much with these. I hope to have the second part either tomorrow or early next week.
About this collection: The collection is inspired by the 1995 Super Nintendo game Earthbound. I'm not familiar with the game because I never had a Super Nintendo set (although I did have an original Nintendo!), but I think you can still appreciate the collection for the vibrant colours and shimmery glitter combinations. The collection consists of two parts - the first part is five jellies packed with shimmer and glitter, while the second part is made up of two glitter toppers and three cremes. I'm showing you the second part of the collection today.
Apple Kid is a fuschia creme with a pink, and slightly purple shimmer. The formula is generally good, but there is some unevenness, which smooths out and becomes unnoticeable once you add top coat. I did notice on the side of the bottle what looks like some unmixed white pigment, so that may be the cause. It doesn't effect the look of the polish though, and the colour is still gorgeous. I used two coats here.

I Miss You is a clear-based glitter topper with lots of pastel matte glitter and iridescent shimmer. As for the glitter there's squares, hearts, and butterflies. I feel like there's other similar polishes out there, but it is still very beautiful. There's a bit too much shape glitter and it wants to pile on the nail all at once. Other than that the formula is good. I used two coats here but one would work fine. I layered it over Tessie.

Magic Cake is another clear-based glitter topper with lots of shimmer, as well as matte neon blue, pink, and yellow square and hex glitter. I think this is a really fun combination, and probably not something I would have gravitated towards on my own. However, I'm glad I have it, because I don't really own anything like it! You're seeing one coat with a few touch ups layered over Mint Flavor.

Mint Flavor is the perfect pastel mint, leaning towards robin's egg blue. It has a beautiful blue shimmer. I really love colours like this, but they always seem to be tricky to work with. This one was no exceptions - I used three coats and it didn't want to level completely. Otherwise the formula was not bad, and the unevenness is not noticeable once you have a coat of top coat.

Tessie is described as a periwinkle but it is more like a pastel lavender with a gorgeous pink and blue shimmer. It goes on quite smooth and I used two coats for full coverage. I would say out of the three cremes, this one has the best formula.

Overall, I really love this half of the collection. Had I bought them separately, I probably would have passed on I Miss You as I have other pastel glitter toppers that I like better. I like that the cremes all have nice shimmers that you can see on the nails.
What do you think of these? Did you get any polishes from this collection?
Great swatches. It's nice to hear some honesty about the formulas. I like the polish but they don't seem too unique and if the formula isn't great, then it's easy to skip on buying these ones.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I always try to be honest about the formula, it's really important for me even though it not the most fun part of writing reviews of stuff. I would say if you already have colours like this you should pass. They are certainly not the worst formulas I've come across. :)
DeleteI haven't gotten any from this collection, but I do think they're super pretty. I need to get my hands on some.
ReplyDeleteMarisa, if you like colours like this, then yes, you should try to get your hands on some. Despite some of the issues I had they were not unworkable, and you're right that they are very pretty. :)
DeleteThese are all beautiful! I really wanted Mint Flavor, but I have so many polishes in that shade already.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a beautiful shade, isn't it!!? I don't blame you for already having so many colours like this. I have a few, but I don't think anything is as bright as this.
DeleteToo bad the formula on Mint Flavor isn't that great.. the shade is lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely shade, I agree! The formula is not perfect, but aside for not leveling completely, it's not bad either. With top coat I couldn't even notice. But yes, it would be nice if it went on a bit more evenly. :)
