Blogging Goals May 2013

Hi everyone! I need your help and input in achieving these goals, so please read on!

Sometimes things get so busy with life and work that I don't always have the focus or clarity to set goals for myself. So far with this blog I've just been going - I review stuff sent to me, and I post whatever happens to come up - without any direction or foresight. So far my goal has just been to post on a regular basis without much direction or purpose beyond that.

My cat Tenouki: makes a goal to get more sleep
(when someone is not standing over her with a camera!)

However, I think goals are very important. It's not about having a bucket list so you feel good about checking things off (although that's always nice), but about the process of setting goals and working to achieve them. I hope that makes sense. In other words, it's about the process, not the end result.

With that in mind, here are my goals for the month of May. I'll check in at the end of the month to let you know how I did. Question: when I check in at the end of the month, would you also like some info on stats and a round up of favourite posts?

Tenouki also makes a goal to read more often -
seen here with Nino Ricci's The Origin of Species

Goal #1: Go on a no-buy for at least one week in the month of May. This is more out of necessity than anything. My income goes down in the summer *sad face*. I'm going to try and do the dreaded no-buy this week as I'm still occupied by a bunch of recent purchases. :P

Goal #2: Post 6 days a week. So far I've been posting five days a week, so six will be a challenge. I don't necessarily know if more is better from a reader standpoint, but I have so many ideas and things I want to post about, I feel the extra day will make me feel like I'm accomplishing stuff.

Goal #3: Increase my blog presence on Facebook. My goal is to have 500 likes by the end of the month. Here's where I need your help. If you like my blog but aren't following on Facebook, please take a minute to "like" my page. The link to my page can be found HERE. And if you know of anyone who would be interested in my blog, please share my page with them. To try and reach this goal I'll sweeten the pot a bit (or whatever the expression is): I'll have a small giveaway when I reach 500 Facebook likes. If I reach 500 by the end of May, I will add a second prize. :)

Goal #4: Post one collection review per week. Reviews of entire collections are a challenge, but I really enjoy them despite the extra work. I'm already on track to achieve this goal: I reviewed the Jindie Nails Spring Chic collection last week, I have another new collection review coming later tonight (cross fingers), and two more in the works. But here's where I want to hear from you. Question: what new or upcoming collections (mainstream or indie) do you want to see reviewed on this blog? I can't make any promises, since I pay for it out of my pocket, but I do want to know what you're interested in seeing.

Here's some suggestions for upcoming collections:

  • China Glaze Sunsational Summer Neons
  • Essie Summer 2013
  • Cult Nails Dance All Night
  • Color Club Holo Hues 2013 (note: I already own these. Are you interested in swatches?)
  • ???
I deliberately did not include the new Zoya collections as I feel the blogisphere is over-saturated with the summer collections.

So there you have it! Check back at the end of the month to see what I did and did not accomplish. And please, please, please, give me your thoughts on some of the questions I posted above. :)

  1. I would love to see the CG, Essie, and CN polish reviews. I am glad to see you want to be better, even though I am already obsessed with your page! Up until this week I didn't even realize that you weren't a huge blogger (as in, tons of followers.) But you deserve so many more :) I'm a small blog too but I can promote yours any time, I LOVE your nails/nail length. Seriously.

    1. Thanks so much for the feedback Kelli! I'll see about getting the new China Glaze collection, but the Essie collection is not out yet.

I really love your blog as well, you always do such a good job with your nail art and posts. I definitely do not see you being a small blog in the future! :)

  4. I love your blog and I know you're going to become people's bloggers to follow very soon! Your swatches and nail art are always perfect! As far as swatches I'd like to see...I'm dying to see the new CG Sunsational collection and hear your opinion on those and I'd also love to see the Color Club! Keep up the great work! :)

  6. @Alyssa - thanks so much for the sweet comments! I'm really working to be a better blogger, and if people enjoy what I'm doing here, that's great! I just ordered the new CG collection so when I get that I'll swatch and review them. However, reviews have been mixed so I'm curious to see how they work out. I'll try to do the CC Holo Hues as well! :)

@Squeaky - thanks for the feedback. I'll look into the Cult collection, depends on whether or not my wallet can handle another collection! ;)

  7. These are great goals and I have faith that you'll achieve every single one! The media presence is something I really need to work on myself. :/

On another note, how old is Tenouki? I have a torti named Xena, and her markings are sooooo similiar to Tenouki's!

    1. Thanks so much Melody!

Tenouki is 10 years old this month, and I've had her since she was a tiny kitten. It seems like these kinds of markings are common on cats, at least that's my impression. Is Xena a shedding machine like Tenouki? ;)

  8. These are all great goals!
I always enjoy your posts whether it's swatches or nail art.
As for collections I'd like to see, I have nothing specific in mind and I'm not always on top of what's coming out, so anything you'll be showing us will be great.

  9. Such a cute kitty! Great you are setting goals for yourself, 6x a week blogging can be challenging (I don't always make it myself) but it does provide nice consistency and indeed a good platform to express all your ideas!
