Serum No. 5: Heartbreaker, Pretty Blue, and Pretty in Pastel

Hi everyone! I have some sweet polishes from Serum No. 5 to show you tonight. I had been meaning to try this brand for awhile now, but never got the chance. So when Victoria, the maker, contacted me about doing a review, I was really excited. I have three polishes to show you today, and two more that I'll leave for later. :)

Serum No. 5 (L-R): Pretty in Pastel, Pretty Blue, and Heartbreaker

I'm really impressed by the work Victoria puts into her packaging and marketing. Go check out the Serum No. 5 website and you'll see what I mean. Not only that but every month Serum No. 5 makes a charitable donation equal to 20% of the profits of all lacquers sold. On the website you can read about the donation made each month.

The polishes I'm showing you today are all glitter toppers that are meant to be layered over another polish. I found these to be not as densely packed as some other glitter toppers I've tried, so in the case of all three polishes I used two coats to get the coverage you see here.

Heartbreaker is an appropriate name for this polish. It's a clear based polish with a shimmer, pink micro-glitter, black bars, and pink and red hearts. The combination of bars and hearts really evokes the heartbreaker theme, don't you think? This is two coats over China Glaze Sea Spray, and while the glitter placement was a bit tricky, I didn't have any issues with this polish.

Pretty Blue is another clear based polish with small fuchsia and blue glitter, and larger midnight blue hexes. There's also an iridescent shimmer in the form of micro-flakes. The shimmer really makes this one, at least I think so. I layered two coats over China Glaze For Audrey for these swatches and I really love this combination. Oh, and I should mention that this looks great over a variety of colours, both light and dark!

Pretty in Pastel has more of a pearlescent base with small pastel hex glitter. I layered two coats over OPI You're Such a BudaPest. This is a really unique one that would look good over a variety of colours. One word of warning, avoid shaking this polish before applying. I usually shake my glitter toppers because it helps get more glitter out, but in this case I ended up with bubbles due to the pearlescent base. :(

Overall, I really like these. All three applied easily, and they can be worn in a variety of ways. Out of the three I think Pretty Blue and Heartbreaker are my favourites. What do you think of these? Any catch your eye?

    1. Elizabeth, I'm not really a bar fan either, but I agree that here, it works. I'm glad you like Pretty in Pastel, that seems to be a popular one!

  5. These are all beautiful and look as though they would be quite versatile.
I haven't tried anything with hearts or bar glitters yet.

  6. Hi Meghan, this brand sits on my "to try" list too :-)!!! I like all three of them though Heartbreaker has a leading place here since I normally don't like Barglitters and with this it is just perfectly synched with the hearts!!! However if I would have to choose only one f those threes you would have to twist my arm ;-)!!! Oh and beautiful swatches :-)
