Deborah Lippmann Moon Rendezvous and a Splatter Manicure

Hi everyone! I don't often show Deborah Lippmann polishes on my blog. Not because I don't love them, but rather because I have so few and I feel the need to save them for a special occasion. I picked this up the other day after I had finished a big work deadline. In my post-deadline euphoric state I wandered into the Holt Renfrew and got this along with one other Deborah Lippmann. The second polish I am saving for a *very* special occasion that is coming up real soon. Curious?! Well, you'll just have to keep reading my blog, lol! ;)

Deborah Lippmann Moon Rendezvous

Moon Rendezvous is a blue-grey metallic with a fine silver/purple/fuchsia shimmer. When I saw photos of this polish after it first came out, I'll admit I wasn't very keen on it. It wasn't until I saw it in the store, and had a chance to try it out that I fell in love with it. The fine shimmer after all isn't very visible in photos, but it's noticeable in real life.

The formula on this was perfect. I used three coats for full coverage, and it was completely self-leveling. I was worried that it was going to have very visible brushstrokes, but that wasn't an issue at all. Drying time was average.

For fun I decided to do a splatter mani with this polish. In addition to Moon Rendezvous, I also used Cult Nails Fetish and Tempest, and OPI Suzi's Hungary Again! I had tried doing a splatter mani previously, but I believe my straw was too big. This time I used coffee stir straws, the very narrow ones, and had a bit more luck. I still found it very challenging, and the majority of the time I couldn't get anything out of the straw.

Splatter manicure

So in regards to the splatter mani technique I still need to experiment with this one. I also found it very wasteful. The polish would dry quick and was no longer usable, and I ended up with so much on my fingers and paper covering the table. For that reason, next time I'll use cheaper polishes. :D

What do you think of Moon Rendezvous? Do you have any advice for me re: splatter manis?

I have yet to try a splatter many so I have no tips, but thank you for the tip about the straw size, I'll be saving up on small straws, :-)

    1. Thanks Chantal! I would recommend getting a few sizes and see what works best, nothing stinks more than realizing the one kind you have on hand doesn't work!

    1. Thanks Kelli, but I don't think it compares to yours - the one you did not too long ago with the studs. That was just <3 <3

    1. Lol! Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you. This was actually my second attempt, and even still I had issues. It's not the easiest technique that's for sure. But thanks for the sweet comments. :)

  7. The splatter looks so pretty! The color combo is great.

What I found to be helpful is to directly insert some polish into the straw (just put the brush a bit inside the straw - only works with larger ones) and work on a surface you can pick up the waste from the use again for splattering (because if a big blob ends up besides you nails you can still scoop it up and blow it on again :)).

  8. Amazing , its so very classy. I love them. very sad to learn on the nail paint wastage part, that also an OPI :(. Nail paint wastage brings tears to my eyes :P

I have one suggestion, did you try an old toothbrush for splatter (rather sprinkle kind of effect). Read this http://thenailartandbeautydiaries.wordpress.com/2013/04/07/easy-at-home-nail-art-the-splashes-of-colors/
I just did this a day before. Let me know if this helped :)
And I didnt even use nail paint, I used acrylic paints which are way cheaper :)

    1. I hate nail polish waste as well, but it seems some techniques are messier than others!

I will try your toothbrush tip, and thanks for the link, I will check out your post. :) So far I've been resisting the acrylics though. I really like the finish of the nail polish and I guess I'm a bit of a purist or something. ;)

  9. The formula does look very nice for a frost. I tend to think of frosts as a little outdated & more for the older group, but you pull it off nicely!
